54 right now with a high of 64. Not quite ideal but when I hear you speak of below freezing it makes me remember why I live in the desert

A desert is simply anywhere with low annual precipitation. For example, Vostok Station in Antarctica averages less than 1" of precipitation annually, making it one of the driest deserts on earth, but also has a mean SUMMER temperature of -31 degrees F, and winter temps frequently getting below -100F.  Also, the Atacama desert in Chile/Peru and the Gobi desert in China are frequently subzero yet some of the driest places on the planet as well.

Yeah, a desert has nothing to do with temperature.

This is partially correct.  There are different methods used to classify biomes.  Not all biome definitions are alike.  Some rely only on latitude, humidity, and elevation.  Others get much more complicated.

So if KP really meant "my biome definition" then he could be completely correct because he uses a biome definition that fits a conventional breakdown or perhaps just one he made up on his own and declared the most valid.

If KP meant to type "by biome definition" then he is partially right because some scientific definitions agree and others don't.

There is no scientific biome definition that specifically outlines deserts as hot.

Regardless, its 62 degrees in my desert right now, and I'm going on a bike ride to see Little Dragon tonight.
Now I just need to find someplace to go when it hits 115 in the summer.

19 here right now. Got most of the cold last week.

Tomorrow we ARE supposed to get 12-18 inches of snow in about 4 hours though. So I can't imagine it will be too cold (below zero is usually too cold to snow) but what a pain in the ass.

You people lucky enough to live in an area without snow...the worst of it all isn't shoveling snow. Its not having to dress warm. Its not driving in the snow.

Its cleaning a foot of fucking snow off of your car on a daily basis just to be able to leave your own fucking driveway.

--------------------
Of course it's happening inside your head.
Why should that mean it isn't real?

Obviously not, since "hot" is relevant and subjective; however, some systems, including Whittaker's, reserved it for areas experiencing 20f+ average temperatures and did not mix it in to environments with average temperatures below 19f.

It is true that most grade schools and college 101 classes teach that deserts can have temperatures in both extremes.  For most people it is acceptable and useful, but climate students are typically taught that there are competing philosophies with different methodologies and measurements.
