Magic Flight Launch Box (Vape review)
    #513820 - 01/14/11 10:38 PM (13 years, 11 months ago)

I recently won one of these portable vaporizers from Growery vendor "themadseason" in a contest he hosted here at the Growery!
So I thought I would do a little review...

Magic Flight Launch Box! :mflb:

Package included:
MFLB unit
2 NiMH batteries
Battery case
battery charger
2 battery caps
A brush to use to clean the screen
User Booklets
Tin can
Pouch

Pros
-It's very small and light!
-No noise
-Simple to use
-Uses NiMH rechargeable batteries for portable use (any NiMH)
-Only takes like 2 seconds to heat up (literally)
-Looks cool
-Great taste
-Does a good job
-It's on the cheaper side of price compared to others
-Plus a Lifetime Warranty!

Cons
-Need to charge batteries because they only last so long depending what type of battery your using (still trying to gauge exactly how long with the stock batteries)
-Only comes with two batteries (although you could just buy extra)
-Only compatible with certain kind of batteries (but if you have a bunch of rechargeable ones this basically obsolete unless you forget them...)
-Small learning curve
-Possibly Fragile screen/glass if your not careful (though it's not really flimsy I haven't tested durability lol)
-Has a possibility of slight combustion if not paying attention

Use:
1, Grind weed, put in trench, and slide glass cover shut.
2, Put nipple of battery into hole, then push and hold it.
3, You'll see a little light go on through the mouthpiece to tell you it's heating.
4, Once you see vapour forming on the glass and coming through the mouthpiece (which is almost immediately) start to then slowly inhale...
5, About 3/4 way through the hit release the pressure from the battery to cut off the power to the heating element so it doesn't get too hot, and so you can clear it.
(The slower you toke it the hotter the chamber gets,, The faster you toke it the more the air cools it down, thus causing less vapor to air ratio...)
Don't keep the battery held for an extended amount of time or you may burn the herb a little...

Use that info to regulate how big/thick of a hit you take...

Also the batteries take about an hour or two to charge it seems (depending what kind)...
Plus note that the mouthpiece comes out

----------

All in all Its a great portable vape that works and I love it so far!
Maybe not as great or efficient as a top on the line desktop unit but it's a good portable vape for what it is!
I've also read you could get an adapter for it!
I've only had it for two days though so I'm still getting used to it...

These are great threads about the MFLB with lots more info --

If you have any questions or thoughts post em up and I'll try my best to answer them.
Or if anybody has any input/experiences of their own on this vape to add as well feel free to post it...

I may update this as I get more used to it...

Happy Vaping! :vaped:

Does it come assembled?  It looks like it is easily taken apart.  Is it meant to be frequently broken down?  Would someone who does not like to "fiddle" with things like this - or does it require tinkering and maintenance?

The mouthpiece and battery come out, the only maintenance it really needs is battery charging and screen cleaning with the brush...

Yeah I've really been enjoying mine even though I've mostly just been using it to  stretch out my stash by vapeing trim. Haven't bothered to get the old whip-style vape out of the closet since buying the MFLB. :awesomenod:

As to durability I wouldn't worry about it. The 'glass' is Plexiglas and the screen is definitely more durable than you would think. Only way I could imagine breaking it is if you had the cover rotated 'open' and stepped on it and even then you'd just bend the metal pin holding it together and possibly snap the mouthpiece.

That's pretty neat, sucks it takes NiMh batteries because you could just buy some eneloops and be good for a long long time.  Those batteries last fucking forever.

They exist--->

Sanyo Eneloop AA NiMH Pre-Charged Rechargeable Batteries (2,000 mAh)

But I've read these are some of the best for it though...

Powerex AA NiMH. (2700mAh)

It really just depends on if you want LSD or HSD batteries though...

How do I choose between LSD and standard batteries?
There are two types of NiMH batteries available: low self-discharge (LSD) and high self-discharge (HSD).

LSD batteries:
Have a shelf life measured in months
Usually marketed as "pre-charged" or "ready-to-use"
Have a lower capacity range (2000-2400 mAh)
Can be damaged if charged too quickly (faster than 60 mins is not recommended)
Best for LB use: Maha Imedion 2400 mAh

HSD batteries:
Have a shelf life measured in days, or weeks at best
Have a higher capacity range (up to 2800 mAh)
Can be used in fast chargers (15 mins)
Best for heavy/frequent use: Maha Powerex 2700 mAh

Choosing between them depends on your usage habits. HSD batteries will only provide about 30% longer in use time (say, six solid minutes of "burn" time) which might or might not be significant. They need to be "topped off" every three days or so, but have the advantage that they can be put in a 15 minute charger.
LSD batteries, on the other hand, will remain "ready for use" once they are fully charged for months at a time--people do not have to remember to put them back in the charger as frequently, or keep them there, to be usable. Unfortunately, LSD batteries do not handle 15 minute chargers as well--they need a slower, more accurate charger.
If you mix the two types and also have a fast charger, be sure to mark them so that you don't put LSD batteries through a fast charge cycle. Doing this won't destroy them but it will reduce their lifetime much more quickly.

...Yah, I'm a dumbass who got it backwards.  The eneloops are NiMh lol. I dunno why I thought they were Li Ion batteries.  Probably because I got yelled at for putting the wrong type of battery in the charger once.

Anyways, eneloops are seriously the best rechargeable battery you can buy hands down.  They are a little more expensive then others, but if you hit ebay or amazon you can find some great deals on them.  Best part about them is that you can charge them, toss em in a drawer, and two years later they'll still have an almost full charge.  I'll never buy another type again, the ones I've had have lasted me a long time already and we just bought another pack to begin phasing those ones out of they start to fail.

Yeah but that's the basically one of the differences between LSD and HSD batteries.

I'll take your opinion on the quality of the eneloop brand batteries but I could charge the HSD batts in like 15 minutes and they'll last longer "in use" than LSD batts, but they can only hold the charge for like a week.
With LSD batts they take longer to charge and you don't get as much "in use" power out of them, but they can hold the charge for a longer amount of time than the HSD batts.

That's all determined by how many mAh it's labeled as...

So when vaping frequently I think the best option would be HSD unless your going on a month camping trip with no power source available, then the LSD batts would seem to be more the more suitable choice...

They both have pros and cons really,, even though the Eneloops may be good at what kind of battery they are It really depends upon what situations your gonna be in to determine which kind of battery (LSD or HSD) would be best for you...

I'm not sure if they make any Eneloops HSD Batteries...
