Yellowing and wilting. Help me save my ladies!!!!
    #513160 - 01/12/11 12:48 AM (13 years, 11 months ago)

Hi everyone,

Soil Growers:
1. Are you growing from seed or clones? Seed
2. How old are your plants? About 6 weeks
3. How tall are your plants? Ranging from 1" to 3"
4. What size containers are they planted in? Half a large coke bottle per seedling
5. What is your soil mix? Seed raising mix with a bit of perlite
6. How often do you water and what type of water do you use? Too often I think.
7. What is the pH of your water? Tap water adjusted to about 6
8. What kind of fertilizer do you use and what is its NPK ratio? None
9. Do you foliar feed or spray your plants with anything? None
10. What kind of lights do you use and how many watts combined? (HPS, MH, fluorescent, halogen, incandescent "plant lights") Sunlight  about 5 hours direct a day
11. How close are your lights to the plants? N/A
12. What size is your grow space in square feet? Outside
13. What is the temperature and humidity in your grow space? Temp around 20 C  Humidity maybe around 70%  Dont have a hygromoter
14. What is the pH of the soil? Around 7  My pH meter doesnt seem to work very well in all of the pots
15. Have you noticed any insect activity in your grow space? A few small gnats or flies
16. How much experience do you have growing? Not much!!!!

After you all helped me save these ladies from a pH problem they are now wilting and yellowing.

The soil seemed quite wet even after 7 days without watering so I transplanted them into bigger pots with dryer seedling mix. After 24hrs there is no improvement.

Help me save my ladies!!!!

Wait, they are 6 weeks old and are 2 to 3 inches?
They have doubled in size in the last month?

You still have not put them under a light.

Are you still using tap water?

You sound like you are still over watering.

If that is your high temp 68 then your low has got to be to low.

Damn!!! You guys are quick!!!

The seedling mix has Dynamic Lifter added to it.

They used to be in 1.25L bottles but I transplanted them into half 3L bottles

Last time I posted they just had their first or second pairs of leaves.

Still using tap water that is pH adjusted to around 6.0.

temperature ranges from around 18C at night to 26 C in the day.

They are just in direct sun for 5 hours a day. No artificial light as I dont have the proper set up.

Any artificial light is better than none.  5 hrs is not enough to grow.  Your plants should be 1-2 feet right now, not inches.

Your tap could have more wrong with it than just its pH.  You also need to no the levels of dissolved minerals in it.

Your fan leaves are not growing in number of fingers.  They all have 3.  That is bad.

Sorry, but if these were my plants I would toss them.

So 12 hrs under a fluoro is better than 5 hours direct sunlight outside?

The fan leaves should be 5 fingered by now shouldn't they?

They are the only seeds I have and they were hard to get so I dont really want to toss them.

Ill stick them under the light that I have and try to work something out :frown:

After your next watering back off on the water for a few days until the soil is COMPLETELY dry. I bet in a few days they start looking better...Will it fix the problem? I'm not sure, what kind of soil was it in before you transplanted?

I want to say the soil was too hot for them and since you've transplanted it should turn around in a few days but I could be wrong its kind of odd how they are growing.

Give em a few days and see what they do.

you need to be giving them at least 18 hours of light. at least 18 hours under fluorescent light, if not 20 hours considering the condition they are in, would be better than 5 hours of sunlight. 12 hours is what you will switch them to when they are big enough and strong enough to go into flower.

your poor babies are STARVED for light and over-watered. try to use either distilled or reverse osmosis water rather than tap water - you have no idea what extra minerals and such are floating around in your tap water.

Today I had them out in the garden all day and now they are under a fluoro.
Tomorrow I will leave them under the fluoro all day.

I know I probably shouldnt have watered them today but I did. They havent been watered for almost 2 weeks but the soil still seems a little moist.

Crosses fingers!!

Thanks for the help.

If its still moist after 2 weeks DON'T water it especially. Either they are getting so little light/heat that there is no evaporation, or your soil mix retains water, which is bad IME, usually leads to repotting the plants in a better mix.

Water isn't going to do them any good if they aren't getting light / heat / nutrients / etc

If you want them to turn around at all, stop watering.

1 seems to be recovering well
1 is looking a bit better
1 is about the same

They are now under a low wattage fluoro 18 hrs a day. Its the best I can do at the moment.

Sorry to tell you all but the ladies are on their death beds.
I pulled one out yesterday and repotted the other two into dry soil but this afternoon they looked very sad. I fear it is all over.

RIP

Oh nooo. You tortures those plants from the beginning.

Next time give them 18-24 hours of direct lighting. It may not be much but thats fine. Don't water them every day.

Replant and try again. This time ask before it gets to this point. Those plants had several problems. Switching lighting like you were doing is probably the worst on them. Telling them one minute they need to flower and one minute they need to veg again.

By the way, give them a few days on the transplant I bet you'll see them perk up some if the roots aren't damaged too.

I feel really bad for killing them.
At least I learned something from my horrible failure so next time will be successful!!!

I did give them a few days to recover from the transplant but they were too far gone :frown:
