Watering

So I have been growing my herb for almost 45 plus days, and have been following a routine of watering with 1 gal every three days for every one of my 12"(Diameter)x11"(Length) pots, totaling 5. This routine sometimes seemed affective for a good amount of days but then some would dry out sooner than others. I feed them each 1/2gal feed 1/2gal water once every week. My question now is what are your methods and what worked for you? I have not been able to find much information, nor get much response from many. Anything helps and is all appreciated

how much you water is defined by your plants needs they all wouldn't drink the same amount of water everyday but close, if all the plants are about the same size. If your plants look like they are dry then give them a little water you don't really need to stress your plants due to lack of water you can give them some nutes' also but keep an eye on overfeeding. It sounds like you know your plants well so use you best judgment when watering and that is a very nice canopy!

For soil I recommend developing a feel for how much water each plant gets. You should lift the pots to see how much they weigh and you can tell how much water is in the pot still. Ideally you want to water a day before the leaves droop once you've got a feel for things you won't need to lift the pots or not as much. Also with fast draining soils containing 30% perlite or pumice it's harder to overwater making it less of a pain and less time consuming.

Well said.
And remember to cultivate the top of the soil well (I use a sharp-pointed pair of tweezers) before watering. I also do this a few hours after watering to level the soil layer even.

Definately. When I water/feed my buckets of straight-out-of-the-bag FoxFarm O.F. soil I apply the fert solution in increments-- water once than come back 20 minutes later.

I cultivate the surface of my soil and coco also which is very important to watering evenly.
