I swear they sell advertising to spammers or something. All the time I will log on and have one junk email, delete it and five minutes later 3 or 4 more roll in like clockwork.

Ignoring the fact you have an hotmail account, you should have multiple e-mail accounts. Maybe one you use personally, like e-mailing family, craiglisting, more private. Of course business email. Then your junky email. Use the junky email for porn subscriptions, forum activation e-mails.
If you have 5000 unread messages, and 10000 in the trash. It's time to move on.

GMX is pretty good. It's based in Europe. Lets you send 100 MB email attachments.

I use Google as little as possible, because I don't like one single corporate entity saving all my email messages, all my web searches, all my contacts, all my private docs, and knowing everything about me. I only use Google itself for image searches. Otherwise I use Scroogle.

Yeah, and whether you search from there or get a toolbar plug-in for your browser (I use one for Firefox), make sure you use the SSL version:
https://ssl.scroogle.org/
That way even your ISP can't see your searches.
