It would be awesome to see some higher technology, but I think the novelty would wear off.
Going back in time to the American frontier pre-indian rape would be the closest thing to heaven.

I'd go far enough forward in time to see the first time machine get built then I'd travel back in time.
both have their high and low points so either would suite me just fine

I would go forward, say next week, find out the winning numbers to $63,000,000 Power-Ball, then go back in time with a suitcase of modern technology and completely fuck with history. I would also love to go back just far enough to see the space-race. I was born just afterward and would really love to go back and witness man landing on the moon myself. On that note I would like a glimpse of the future, to see if we ever build a moon base or travel to Mars or beyond. Maybe just to make sure we haven't completely annihilated the planet in the next hundred years or so.

Forward. I know of the past, and its not what I would want. The future is unknown, so I would be taking a gamble. Honestly, I would rather stay right here in the present.
