You know how many servers are within the TOR network? A lot. How do you know who owns what? You don't.

Update. Unistalled Tor. Deleted all the files. Only the APP file won't delete. It says "You do not have permission to delete the file", maybe I will go to safe mode and try to delete it. I think if I can get that to delete I can install a new tor and it will work. Any ideas?

Read the warning on that page. Just enabling tor doesn't protect you.
And neither does adding a VPN+tor.

Wouldn't it be nice if the ip that showed up for you pointed to a completely different broadband subscriber than you? One with a different name and address. You would have a unique MAC address but it would be registered to no one. Or if someone does have the same MAC, than you get a unique ip but the records down at Cable Company HQ show that MAC belongs to subscriber #XXXXXX, not you.
Also wouldn't it be great if you could sniff out the different config files for your modem and attain the TFTP address for the fastest service possible in your area?
The only way you could be located is if a line tech systematically cut off service to everyone in your neighborhood while sniffing out your packets on the line. When your packets stop, that may be your house. Or maybe you just unplugged your modem....
Do you know how much of a pain in the ass that would be for the cable co.?
Instead, all they do when they find duplicate MAC's is boot them both. All you have to do is change your MAC and reboot. This hardly ever happens to people, btw.
Just hack your modem, it's soooooo worth it

Man I got tor working in about 30 minutes on Ubunut 10.4. It wasn't that difficult. But I use a 10 times faster proxy service that I found; and I ain't hooking it up either. Leet find what they need.

sorry to bring this thread back from the dead, but i figured its better than starting a new one. so me being paranoid i decided to download firefox and install the tor button. im no good with this sort of shit so i got it set at default settings.
but when i use the test button i get the following message.
"Tor proxy test: Local HTTP Proxy is unreachable. Is Polipo running properly?"
would be awesome if someone could help me out with this.
EDIT: got it working, just read the instructions. simple to setup, but i still have no idea what any of the settings do would it be okay just to leave it as default

I think using proxies is a red flag and it's true you don't know who's running them. I like to browse for CP and Islamic Marxist Anarcho-Primitivist Terrorist sites in the wide open. I keep a computer monitor on the outside of my home so people can see what I'm doing. Then I usually write my ISP at the end of every day with a list of the illegal sites I've visited, just to promote "transparency." (I know everyone at the cable company can already see everything, but sometimes they don't actually notice because they're following the other four million users too.) Sometimes if I can't find something illegal on Google, I'll write to Google (simultaneously to every company email address I can find) and ask if they've seen anything with babyrape or people being beheaded by religious fundamentalists or Eastern European white surpremacists or how-to videos on building WMDs out of goat shit and depleted uranium. Oddly enough, they have. They write back and tell me about web sites of how to build a nuclear weapon while taking nude pictures of little girls in bondage manufacturing exploding sheets of self-destructing LSD, cc'ing me to Michelle Leonhard the head of the DEA. (I can only assume she's into the kinky shit too, like testing WMDs on child prostitutes.)
P.S. If the government is hiring, I would like to be one of the millions of people you hire to watch the other millions of people. I have experience as a Census Enumerator (for half a day of canvassing until I got tired in the sun).

it was this website that freaked me out
http://whatismyipaddress.com/
from my ip address it shows all of my details, and the exact location of my my house popped up on the map
but now ive downloaded tor, a random place in isreal popped up instead im still a bit paranoid about making a grow log because my growery name is linked to my email address. so somehow they could probably find out my actual name and track me down

For some reason I think if they truly wanted to bust your cabinet grow they'd find a way to bomb your house while simultaneously sniping you through the window.
