 MMJ Growers: Therapy for Soldiers Suffering from PTSD?

I posted an article on the Shroomery about current suicide/PTSD rates
among Afghan and Iraq war veterans and how it is becoming a problem
of epidemic proportions (about 20 veterans PER DAY commit suicide).
I and many others have lost close friends and family that were formerly
in the service. My question is: has there been any experimentation
in using MMJ to help ease the pain some of these veterans go through on
a daily basis?
I know very little about MJ cultivation, but I assume there has been
strains developed that ease the body and mind and don't make for a too
'heady' experience. I think MMJ growers such as yourselves could begin
to make a much-needed positive impact on this growing nightmare.
The military is not doing a sufficient job in treating our men and women
so I think its time we stopped sweeping the problem under the rug and
try to help our brothers and sisters.
If any of you have any interest in helping, I would love to create a
website or online ad of some kind that can help direct veterans to
helping hands.
Please add any ideas you feel could be beneficial.

I know their are also organizations that donate MMJ to vets who either can't obtain it legally in their state or for vets who can not afford it (how sad is that  )
From my own personal experience I can tell you that the VA doctors (some of them anyway) will not tell a patient to stop using MJ if they are already smoking and getting relief from their symptoms. However, in this state, doctors can not legally advise a patient to start using MJ.
Overall, the care I have seen patients receive from local VA hospitals is shamefully lacking. The public should be outraged.

It's infuriating and it's not even limited to veterans. Soldiers in the
field that exhibit signs of PTSD are often just drugged up with powerful
anti-despressants/anxiety medications and sent right back to the front
lines.

If someone can develop a strain were paranoia isn't one of the side effects then I think it would be good, but adding paranoia to post traumatic stress doesn't seem like a very good idea

Most antidepressants take weeks before thier effecacy can be determined. If the drug doesn't work (or has intolerable side effects)then the patient has to be weened off and tried on something else. If someone gets paranoid from MJ at least you will know right away and it will wear off well before the patient starts harboring thoughts of killing his family and stuffing the bodies in a duffle bag.

I was exposed to aspestos in the service from many buildings. I think smoking marijuana not only releaves PTSS but helps melanosis of the lungs. as for the paranoia...if your doing things legaly and love marijuana there is nothing to be paranoid about besides the paranoia from war overshadows the paranoia from weed.
