FoxFarm soil & nutrients
2gal pots
DNA Genetics x Willie Nelson
3 distinct strains came out, what i think to be L.A. Confidential(my personal favorite),Connie Chung & Martian Mean Green or what smelled like Lemon Skunk..
Most of it came off in 9 weeks but the Lemon took almost 11 weeks of flowering

Last one with the single 600 I ended up with about 12oz, but yield was severely hindered. It was my first time with hydro, I fucked up multiple times, if I would have done things properly I believe it would have been more like 18-20oz.

Your setup is great. How'd you manage to get the canopy so uniform without a screen? A hell of a lot of tying down, I'm guessing?

it was all in the topping process, no tying down.
im doing an experiment with my new grow where i leave half of the tent untopped and the other half topped with multiple colas so i can see which style yields more..

Yes, you should yield more with topped plants, though, how much more will depend on how far you go with the topping. Honestly I would be thinking about some other training too. I'm pretty convinced that indoor grows basically need to be trained to get the best yield out of it. Where as an outdoor plant has so much light from all angles its not really as necessary, and won't net you the same difference.

i've heard that some strains, when untopped can reach there maximum potential in potency and yield? but others say its the more bud sites you create the more wieght you'll get?

Well, maximum potential untopped, they may just be talking about an outdoor plant. I really don't see how they could say that about an indoor plant. Unless intended for SoG, or an autoflower maybe? I don't know, doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me, but then again, all I try to grow is big bushes.
There's also this, if you don't top, you get that one big main cola. Now you aren't gonna be able to beat the weight of that one cola with any single cola that was created by means of topping/training 9 times out of 10. Though if you make enough of them you'll more than make up for it. IME.
I'm sure someone a little more experienced has a better explanation.. For me though, I've grown both trained and untrained and I don't see how I would ever just let a plant do its own thing and not touch it. Maybe next round I can take a couple clones and let one go its own way and train the other just to see how much difference there actually is on identical plants. I'll probably forget though.

yeah, im a big fan of trying to create a canopy. even if it means raising the shorter plants closer to the light or by tying or bending back the taller branches.
ive got this strain i believe is la confidential x willie nelson that i've topped for the last 2 grows and it seems to have smaller colas then some of the others in the same condition. it could just be that the strain is not reacting as well to being topped.
this time i have 2 of LAcons in the tent and im gonna let 1 go and top or fim the other..we'll see

Yeah, though I've never had a problem topping any of mine, I have heard of some strains not liking it very much.
