i find this lyric to be very trippy and have layers of different meanings. but she lives in a dream... maybe this means she possibly schizophrenic but more importantly she is living in this tired, fabricated fantasy world that screams of dread and doom which is emphasized by the music

Who is it for?
she is waiting at the window- but who for? who does she has? who is she expecting? this face that she keeps in a jar by the door- the face we all wear, that is the mask we put on when we go out in public... a fake state of beings to blend and converge nicely into society- hiding all inner meaning. who is it for? meaning why do we do this? who do we have to play emotional dress up for?

McKenzie is also lonely, carrying out these societal/religious duties for no one, no one comes near- he is alone, weird, creepy in his way and job.

What does he care?
he is darning his socks, late at night alone, he has no one in his life to judge him or who is going to see his socks. why the fuck is he doing this? fixing his socks! this obsessive need to do these things he feels obligated to do is his only friend- the only one who cares.

elenor has died and now she might as well have never existed. no one came to her funeral.

No one was saved
father McKenzie and Eleanor finally meet but it is too late. two people who could have satisfied each others and save themselves from loneliness and they finally meet but only by this horrible circumstance. he wipes the dirt and death from his hand and walks away- it's all over and it's nothingness. grief, nothing, no knowledge, no life, just sorrow.
