Kubrick really did a number with his interpretation of the Shining, and I'm pretty sure SK never approved f the final product.
With that said, even as a fan of SK, I think the film is way superior to the book
But to add to the topic: Killer clowns from outer Space, the American remake of "the Ring", tale of two sisters, Zombie, night of the living dead, and John Carpenter's "the thing"

I have read a lot of Stephen King but I wasn't able to get through "the Shining"
but I have never seen the movie so I don't know how they compare I did however visit the hotel which was pretty sweet
the Ring is one of my favorite horror movies but the Ring 2 was pretty disappointing but it did have a few good moments

The Ring?! PG13 horror movies don't count!
There's an apartment complex next to where I live called The Overlook. I always thought that was creepy.

The Thing is a pretty good one, very atmospheric. Killer Klowns is definitely a guilty pleasure of mine, so is They Live.

I disagree a truly good horror movie can instill a deep unsettling feeling without relying on buckets of gore, graphic violence, and other shock tactics.

Speaking of horror movies the last "Saw" of the series is coming out in 3D near Halloween.

Well yeah I agree but I just never liked The Ring. I didn't like The Grudge either... Ju-On was good though.

I'm not going to be completely elitist but I did really like the first Saw. Some of the others have been hit or miss. I like pt2 but didn't like 3 didn't really like 6 either.

I hated the grudge in general I don't like movies that rely on what I call "fun house scares" (the kind of stuff that pops out at you)
