I have read that harvesting when trichomes are milky is good for an "uppy high". Look and share your thoughts.

I'd wait for another opinion, but if it is not time, it is pretty damned close. I think harvest has a bit of opinion to it due to it supposedly changing the high a little. If you don't want couchlock, it most likely is time in my opinion, maybe even a bit past time.
Jorges grow bible says to take full advantage of the sativa strain (non couchlock high) you harvest when they are clear/milky colored, and do not wait until amber.
Then for when you have an indica and want to take advantage of the couchlock to harvest when almost all of them are amber.

What bites my ass is that I fed her today, not noticing the trichs till later. Would a good 3 day flush work? It is soil outdoor, unknown genetics.

You should go to RadioShack and grab a cheap $13 microscope to see the trichomes http://www.radioshack.com/pwr/product-reviews/Cables-Parts-Connectors/Tools-soldering-equipment/Magnifiers/RadioShack/p/2179604-Illuminated-Microscope.html I got this one and it's been sooooooo helpful. It's 60x-100x zoom and you can see everything, trichomes, hook trichomes, bugs and sometimes it even feels like I can almost see the stomata. IMO the only way to truly tell if your plant is ready for harvest is to magnify the 'chomes and take a good look. You can also use it to check out bud before you buy it and see if it's good.
I honestly can't even tell you how great that little thing is, it's so worth the $13. There are other microscopes like the 420 scope but they just slap an extra $20 on it because of the name it's pretty much identical to other cheaper ones.
Everyone should have a microscope!!!

Microscope helps, but you can clearly see amber trichomes in the first pic. I would say the week wait would definatly give him more weight, but more of a couchlock. I think most of us harvest for the weight.
Going by his book, he says that max thc is when they are milky and amber is when they are starting to degrade. The last image goes into detail about harvesting for the certain highs.
My new cams a piece of shit.
If mods feel necessary, just remove those images.

Yeah Lays, I can see them. bout 10% at least. This is what ive read... You've managed to make it to the end. You've maintained your plants well, now it's getting closer to harvest time, and you're wondering just how and when to harvest and dry those beautiful buds. Hopefully I can give you some insight into how this can be successfully done; the do's and dont's of proper harvesting and curing. First, lets take a look at the harvest side of things.Timing of your harvest is critical! Harvesting at maximum ripeness is the key. In my experience, there is usually a five to seven day window when the Cannabis plant will be at maximum ripeness. To understand this, you will need a jeweler’s loupe, or magnifying lens, light optional. I would recommend a power of 30x or better, but you can get by with less. A greater magnification makes it much easier to see the trichome heads at the top of the stalked resin glands.Resin gland color, potency, and type of highGland color will vary with ripeness of the individual THC glands, starting at clear, turning to milky, then turning to an amber color. There may be some exceptions, such as some of the Blue strains and Blackberry. These will have darker, sometimes purple gland heads. But by far and large, these three steps of ripeness will exist with the vast majority of strains on the market. The first stage, clear, will tend to make for a more cerebral, up high, with very little body effect. Harvesting at this stage when little if any trichomes are milky yet, can be tricky. Harvesting too early can make for a beautiful plant that will not have much psychoactive capability! THC needs to "mature" to be able to pass its psychoactive capabilities down to the smoker. This is why I always recommend waiting until 50% of the trichomes hit the second stage: milky or creamy. At this point, you will definitely have a plant which has reached its genetic potential.

Going by the pics I'd wait a week before pulling if I was you.
Now if it was my plant I'd wait 2 weeks at the very least.

Why, you like golden trichs? Or because of calyx growth?

Because the buds don't look mature and taste and smell are gonna suffer. As far as couchlock goes it's more a mater of strain the trichs. Indica is gonna be couchlock no matter when you harvest it and it's as simple as that. Sativa is a up high and so on. Yeah there is a difference in amber and milky but the difference is slight at most.
In other words you aren't gonna turn a couchlock strain up high or vise verse.

10-4. Magash is gonna show up at my door with a learning stick. before all is said and done, lol. One final question if you come back. Do you chop the whole plant, or pick for ripeness?

You know it depends. I usually go for ripeness depending on what kind of time I have and how much I have to harvest. The best option is to pick for ripeness if you can.
When you do harvest if it's still sunny and going to be in your area harvest the buds and leave as much of the plant in the ground as you can even if you take every bud. The reason is I have harvested the buds off of plants and have come back to have them complete re-bud.

I wish it were warm enough to do that here.
I was going to say, on a small scale, go for ripeness. But when dealing with larger loads, one doesn't have the time or patience to inspect and cut every top as they finish. That's way too much work.

I'd spend the extra 5 bucks and buy a better scope. That radio shack scope is a POS. It works ok I suppose, but for a couple extra dollars you can buy something that is much easier to use and better constructed.

Tell ya what, Im gonna harvest at varying stages of trichome development, recording all factors, and will post better macros later if I deem one ready.
