Leaves Yellowing Strangely...
    #478583 - 09/17/10 09:09 AM (14 years, 3 months ago)

The leaves on the plant are starting to yellow, but in an odd way. It doesn't look like a nute problem.

Rather than yellowing from the edge in, they are turning lime green. Not so much yellow, but just a really light green.

The new growth is all a very DARK green, whereas the older fan leaves are turning a lime (almost yellow-green).

Is it just because the fan leaves are older and dying?

I'll get a picture asap, but all I have is my stupid phone and my cameras battery is dead. I figured maybe you guys could figure it out from that description.

Also - theres no burning at the tips or other problems.

Nitrogen is a mobile nutrient that can be drawn from older fan leaves for new growth.  This (in conjunction with less light available for lower leaves as new growth captures more available light) causes the older leaves to pale and die off over time.  Totally normal.  However, if your newer growth begins to show signs of fading to yellow with no other symptoms, you likely have the beginnings of a nitrogen deficiency.

Thanks!

I've never tried topping before this time, and therefore this plant vegged a lot longer than any other plant I've had before. Its much more of a bush, and its planted in a 3 gallon container rather than my usual small container. I've noticed this in my other plants, but not until much further along in the growth cycle. I suppose its happening earlier this time because there is much more growth happening this time.

Thanks again!

No problem my man.  Happy to have you on the Growery.  We're still small, but we're building an army!

A larger plant will definitely metabolize more nutrients, and if its bushy, that will also block more light from the lower growth.  Keep an eye on it though.  If you're not yet in the flowering phase, you might want to up your nitrogen-strong nutrient solution a little bit.  If on the other hand you only have 2 - 3 weeks left in flowering and the yellowing is only affecting the fan leaves, don't worry about it since you actually want your plant to metabolize as many of the nutrients as possible prior to harvest, in order to result in a cleaner smoke (residual nutes tend to result in harsh smoke - hence why flushing the soil a week or so prior to harvest is a common practice).

Yeah, I'm about 4 weeks away from the finish.

And I much prefer this place to the shroomery. It might be smaller, but its got heart
