Star Trek: A Love Hate Relationship
    #474689 - 09/09/10 05:28 PM (14 years, 2 months ago)

I know I'm a nerd but I am a major Trekkie and I got so excited while I was grocery shopping last night at Wal-Mart and saw season one of the original series on sale.  Ever since they stopped airing TOS reruns on my local stations I've started to miss it.  The packaging looked really cool so I bought it.

When I got home I was so disappointed.  I don't know what exactly I imagined was on the inside but the outside box looked so cool.  The inside did not.  The discs themselves were cased in a flimsy plastic folder.  I expected the discs to have some kind of graphic or even at least be labeled but they're double sided discs.  I've since learned that the reverse side is for HD players.  Okay so that's absolutely useless to me.  It also came with these placecards.  They each tell you what episodes are on which disc and the extras but without an episode synopsis you're flying blind.

I thought I could use them in the plastic dvd folder so I knew which disc was which and what episodes were on them.  But they didn't fit in the grooves in the plastic folder, even if they did I have no idea how I'd get them to stay in without falling out everytime I took the folder out of the case.  Moving on to my next problem, I thought the case opened like it did so you could display them better.  Open it from the top, stand it up, and grab your dvds easier. but as the following picture shows once opened if you don't hold on to it either closes in on itself or it topples over.  It doesn't even open all the way at the bottom so if you wanted to you could put something heavy in the bottom compartment to balance out the weight.

I popped in the first disc only to find out that the unaired pilot wasn't included and for some reason was put on the third season dvds.  I read an amazon review that claimed they did this because the third season wasn't selling very well.  Its just a bummer because it has The Menagerie pt1&2 which is a callback to that episode.  I guess I shouldn't be bitching because I now have 29 episodes of a classic TV show that I'm fanatic about.  On a more positive side the picture quality is clear and the menus are pretty cool.

Is that what their official releasing? That's really a trashy package.

Alcoholics Anonymous is a fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength and hope with each other that they may solve their common problem and help others to recover from alcoholism.

The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop drinking. There are no dues or fees for A.A. membership; we are self-supporting through our own contributions. A.A. is not allied with any sect, denomination, politics, organization or institution; does not wish to engage in any controversy; neither endorses nor opposes any causes. Our primary purpose is to stay sober and help other alcoholics to achieve sobriety.

Not being a fan of such things would have completely eliminated all possibilities of being disappointed.  In fact, you could have either saved the money or spent it on something that didn't suck.

Somehow there seems to be a division between the two.  In most people's eyes we're both equally geeky.  Did anybody see Fanboys?  Its like that.

So you don't like any of the star treks?  Seems like most people don't like the original series because they think the effects are bad and the makeup is bad and the sets are bad.  And they're right but they tend to cling to TNG and DS9 or Voyager because they had better resorces and technology to make those shows.  I tend to like the Original series best because its got better writing and less uptight more down to earth characters.

Good question Koopa but I'm not sure if this is the first time they've been released to dvd.  You'd think as long as the technology has been out this wouldn't be its first release on dvd.

Well OJ to each his own.  I went to the Wal-Mart last night with essentials in mind and came back with a bunch of junk food I'd thought would be great for munchies.  UGH stoners should just hire assistants to do the grocery shopping.

here's the list:

1. Miller Lite 9 pack 16oz aluminum bottles $10.97
2. Miller Lite 9 pack 16oz aluminum bottles $10.97
3. White Castle 6 Pack frozen sliders $3.38
4. White Castle 6 Pack frozen sliders $3.38
5. Rold Gold Pretzels $2.78
6. Rold Gold Pretzels $2.78
7. Lil' Debbie Swiss Rolls $1.43
8. Lil' Debbie King Sized Oatmeal Cream Pies $3.00
9. Fanta 2 Liter Grape Soda $1.25(on sale)
10. Fanta 2 Liter Orange Soda $1.25(on sale)
11. Delimex 25 box Beef Taquitoes $4.78
12. Marie Calendar's Frozen Swedish Meatballs $1.98
13. Star Trek Season One DVDs $49.96

I have this weird compulsion to do things in twos.  So as you can see I blew my wad on stuff other than DVDS.
