This is my 2nd time growing, and I am curious what soil I could use. I used a blend from Fox Farm last time. My yield was not terrible, but I was curious about other alternatives in the soil realm. Thank you

Fox farm is about as good as premade soil comes. Maybe slightly better is a soil called "Black Magic" but it's pretty hard to find. Other than that you'll need to just buy some components and make your own soil if you really want to push the boundaries of awesome

i have used soil from my backyard a few times with great results most people would not recommend doing so. but i know for a fact i have good soil.
also i feel diversity is key no matter what we are talking about
so 3 bags of soil mixed together is better then one IMO but i would never buy MG look for local made composts. Dehydrated manures are a good additive but plants cannot use it on there own
also drainage and soil respiration should be kept in mind
edit- i mix foxfarms with my backyard soil. but again most people would not recommend to do that and soil is different all over the world.
welcome to the growery!

Do you use Foxfarm soil? In my opinion it might be of the best "complete" soils but it's far too hot for seedlings. I personally won't touch the stuff, I've heard from many growers that they find the stuff to be toxicly over ferted and say it's too much work to cut it with additional peat/soil to make it suitable for seedlings. Foxfarm is also silly expensive at least in Canada.
CFLbc: you can get Foxfarm soil in Toronto, quite far for you but possibly your only option. I highly doubt customs will let bags of soil pass the boarder.

BTW I don't recommend getting foxfarm soil shipped. That would cost heaps and you're better of making your own mix IMHO.

Here's a good post from geokills about this:

geokills said: If you don't want to hassle with mixing your own blend of organic soil, I would suggest Fox Farm's Ocean Forest pre-packaged soil. I've been an avid gardener for years (of all plants), and the Ocean Forest soil is the best pre-mix I've yet experienced. Use this locator page to find your nearest distributor, as the soil itself is expensive enough and you wouldn't want to ship these heavy bags via post!
.....and I have difficulty picturing a situation where you would need to pay to have soil shipped to you.

If you read the thread... the only supplier of foxfarm in Canada (to my knowledge) is across the country from the OP.
... and I have difficulty picturing a situation where you can get what could be hundreds of pounds of anything shipped to you for free.
