10,000 Days

Let me start off by saying I'm a huge Tool fan and I've loved everything they've released so far but I just couldn't get into 10,000 Days. To me it seemed like they started off straight up metal then when Aenima came around they started experimenting. It's a great cd but I'm still not that big on all the interludes. Lateralus was a bit different and by now they'd found a new sound and were no longer experimenting but its still a great album. Aside from Vicarious and maybe The Pot I just don't like this one. Always struck me as too different, too artsy, and kinda dull and boring. Which sucks because you usually wait years and years for Tool to make a new release. I've always felt as indifferent from this as I have to Emotive.

hah i thought 10,000 days was a joke when i first heard it, it's a complete pile of crap. that said i love ænema and lateralus, for more then ten years i've been a tool fan, and seen them twice live. 10,000 days just ruined them for me, no feeling to it, re-used riff's, just crap work all around. i don't see why so many people think it's their best work yet.

have you ever heard them play 10,000 days live? That fucking song will make every hair on your body stand on end. It was like that for me every time. But I think compared to all their other albums it is seriously lacking. Aenima and Lateralus were fucking epic albums. They are writing again so I pray for the next album to be more appealing than 10k days. I've started a fund to go over to Europe for their tour after they release the next album. I hope to catch 10 shows across the continent, flying spaghetti monster willing.

no, and it does have one or two songs i liked, but as an album as a whole it was greatly disappointing, especially to wait that long for it to come out.
that sounds like a great trip, tool have done some of the best shows i've ever been to. lets hope the next album turns out good, i didn't really care for salival, and that came out between two amazing albums, maybe 10,000 days will be like that.

So true. The song 10,000 Days (Wings Pt. 2) is absolutely amazing every tmie I hear it. I actually find it perfect for salvia trips because of its slow build up, the timing matches the salvia trip perfectly. When the song ends so does my trip usually.
tool ftw but 10,000 days isn't as perfect as lateralus was unfortunately.

I just dont understand the obsession with Tool, I mean I cant even say that they are good. I love music, but I guess I just have really different tastes than some people on here. I respect you furrowed, but I dont understand why you love tool. Please explain.

Guitar for 7 years, also I would like to say the reason I dont like Tool is because I dont like metal that much anyways. Not because it goes over my head. I also dont like bands that make 10 minute songs with the same drum beat over and over again. It's more of an annoying band to me than anything.
I like some of their songs, but I cant listen to it for very long before I get a headache.

Granted their guitar isn't very technical or difficult, just fast.. It's the entire band together that make amazing music and art. They were also considered a revolutionary movement of metal.
MJK is insane on vocals and his lyrics are incredible and relevant Danny Carey is literally insane with the drum set, can't you hear how crazy his rhythm is but he always comes back to it?
Idk. TooL is my favorite band ever and has been for ~3-4 years

You and I just have different opinions of what is good, I would consider The Flaming Lips to be one of the best bands of all time. Right up there with the beatles.

Tool possesses a synergy that should be the standard for modern musical acts. Danny is unbelievable at drumming. I wish I knew more about the technical aspects of his play so I could talk intelligently about it. Ask any drummer who knows hard rock music and they will tell you what a beast he is whether they are a fan or not. Maynard's lyrics are amazing too. Sooo full of metaphors, yet so relavent no matter how you take it. The lyrics may mean something to me, but they might mean something completely different to Chillwillis or your. Their songs are open to such interpretation I can't help but find a positive message in each and every song. Here's a great way to describe tool to the clueless...
"the thinking person's metal band. Cerebral and visceral, soft and heavy, melodic and abrasive, tender and brutal, familiar and strange, western and eastern, beautiful and ugly, taut yet sprawling and epic, they are a tangle of contradictions."
Plus their music isn't about what most music is, lyrically. It's just damn good music and I will love it till I die! 15 shows down, hopefully just as many to come! Although, I really think that this next album will be the last, or at least the last to preface a world wide tour. Maynard is 46 years old. That's another thing i like about these guys, they are all getting up there in age.
If any of you ever go to a tool show, look around, the only thing you will see in common with everyone there (98% of people anyway) is their black tshirts. I've had seats next to 7 year olds, and seats next to hippies who dance crazy the whole time, and seats next to people with all gray hair wearing business clothes! The band attracts a wide audience. All of which are PROBABLY open to some kind of cannabis use. or at least the idea that it's a freedom issue. I don't know of many bands that have as wide of a following of intelligent fans.

you know what i did in english class? I came to class stoned out of my mind every day, i chugged vodka in the back of class, i put dead fish in the ceiling tiles. i put a gallon of old milk and orange juice in the file cabinet before winter vacation. i brought snakes in a tied up sweater and let them loose during class. i didnt go to school to learn, i went because i had to. i didnt care, and i didn't fucking listen to that stupid bitch. and i still don't fucking care. i tore the pages out of her books and burned them, and threw away all the books in the class, two books per day.

This how I feel about A Perfect Circle. The Thirteenth Step is on my top album list. Tool isn't appealing to me.

APC is one of my favorites to trip to, though i haven't listened to one of their albums in years, last time i did was a rough patch in life.
the flaming lips are great, they got together at trinity university where i used to hang around and met my best friend.
theres no threads about instruments and music around here, maybe someone should make one! my main setup is a tom anderson classic strat and an orange thunderverb 50, with several effects.
