So, this is my first time ever using molasses in my water...I mix up a gallon at a time, and it usually lasts me for a week or so...never had it smell gross before this time.
It separated a little, had some bubbles on top, and POPPED when I opened the jug up (scary, because its glass). It also smelled like some kind of horrible cheese.
I'm assuming since it was kinda carbonated, something was wrong...is it from the molasses? If so, how do I mix molasses in so it doesn't ferment and get really disgusting?

Only mix the amount you need. dont store it.
again, i know your from the shroomery. Its like a giant unsterilized LC if you give it time then anything in there will colonize it
you probably smelled bacteria.

Rinse it out quick, I just lost my entire grow and had to harvest way early because of molasses. You're going to get pythium aka root rot. That is what you are smelling and it's the molasses fermenting and growing bacteria. Dump it and forget you ever had molasses, it caused me death in like 3 days. Use bloombastic by itself for flowering. Wash out your roots with 3% peroxide and clean the reservoir. I'd hate for you to lose your crop like I did!

Only mix what I need? Well, thats like a quarter of a gallon maybe?
@Aerie - thats unfortunate man, but I don't grow hydro...which makes me think I have a bigger time frame to fix it.
All the fermenting the took place took place in my water jug after a few days. I suppose it WOULD be best to mix up a quarter of a gallon at a time...hmm.

I find that if you dont aerate water that has organics in it that the water can turn murky or even smell foul. This is because of anaerobic bacteria growing in your water.
A friend of mine tried an all organic (BIO Buzz nutrients which is OMRI listed) hydro grow, the first time he tried it he had issues dialing the nutrients in for the strain he was growing. The second time he thought it would be a whole lot better because he had kept notes from the first run, everything was going swell until late flowering when he somehow pulled out the hose going from the pump to a 12" airstone he had in his reservoir. The reservoir smelled FOUL no more than 3 days later. It didn't kill his crop, but it stunk the shit out of his entire basement.
