Sectioning the Grow Log forum * 1

It can be intimidating to look at all those grow journals in that forum.  Especially if you are only interesting in reading through the completed ones.  I know a lot of those are incomplete and abandoned though.  What would be the chances of adding an 'incomplete' and 'completed' subforum?  Does anyone else have an opinion or anything to add?

I think this was mentioned before and I think it could possibly be a good idea...

Rather than using sub-forums, I think category assignment would be an easier implementation.  This would function in the same manner as categorization on the Shroomery's Ethnobotanical Garden forum, which you can use to filter the thread list for the specific plant topics that you're interested in, and in the case of the Grow Log forum, completed or in-progress journals.

complete and in progress would be tough because then the moderators would have to actively move topics on a regular basis. I think there's a lot of potential there for us to get way behind and then it's an even bigger mess.

I like the categories idea though, maybe separating them into soil, hydro and soil-less mediums or even indoor and outdoor subforums might help clean it up a bit, and then we'd only have to move the thread once if someone misposts

The "Completed Journal" and "Journal in Progress" categories have been implemented in the Grow Journals forum.  For moderators, all you have to do is scroll to the bottom of a thread and in the center you'll see the category assignment operation.  Members just have to edit their post, and the option to categorize their topic will be in the drop-down menu underneath the subject form field.

To keep things simpler (easy to sort) since we don't have a shiton of journals, I think the two categories will suffice.  In so far as differentiating between soil/hydro/etc, we should encourage a thread title format that clearly indicates these attributes (ie. Outdoor/Indoor, LightSource/Wattage, Grow Medium).  I have made note of this in the forum sticky and have also started to rename/categorize existing topics.

perfecto!  Are members able to view only one category at a time?

Yes! Scroll to the bottom of the thread list and you will see the option to filter threads by date and category.
