You sound fresh on the block, if so, I recommend a two part fertilizer, floranova is great and easy to use. One is grow while the other is bloom. Read up on Nutrients and micro nutrients to gain a better understanding of individual needs before investing in a product line.

The three numbers indicate the relative concentrations of Nitrogen (N), Phosphorous (P), and Potassium (K). As a general rule, your plants will want a higher concentration of N during the vegetative phase, and a higher concentration of P during the flowering phase. Therefore, it would make sense that the 2-3-1 ratio is appropriate once you are bringing the plant into their flowering cycle, since it would indicate a higher level of phosphorous than nitrogen or potassium.

by clicking that button at the top right of their post that says "quote"
Can you link us to the post where they mention the 2-3-1 so we know if it's NPK or GMB?

Someone explained to me on another forum that when people say 1-1-1 1-3-2 etc it's tsp per gal of whatever component.

I don't think that's a very good rule of thumb to use. What if someone says 4-3-3? Is that ml/gallon, tsp/gallon or NPK? there's really just no way to know without the author specifying and assuming incorrectly could be fatal to your plants
