Quote: Just print the PDF version onto full-sheet sticker paper, then cut out disclaimers and apply to books. Give some to your kids to take to school. Leave some next to the appropriate books at your local bookstore. And for extra good fun, sticker your friends' books when they're not looking.
In case you're curious, wording for the top left disclaimer is taken verbatim from the sticker (view) designed by Georgia's Cobb County School District ("A community with a passion for learning"). The other disclaimers are my variants that explore the real motivations of the anti-science "folks" who tend to migrate to positions of power on school boards across the country. My naive hope is that the above stickers might deter other school districts from using disclaimers that poison children's understanding of education and science. It's at least worth a try. Mainly it just encourages hate mail.
My more recent, more naive hope is to get Alabama's evolution disclaimer eliminated. Since 1996, Alabama has mandated an evolution disclaimer be placed in every biology textbook in the entire state. REALLY! So I have made some new disclaimers (below; click image for option to download printable version) just for Alabama. And you can help me out by referring your Alabama friends to my Axis of Evo blog for more graphical goodness in support of a reality-based science education in the yellowhammer state. I'm especially interested in finding people in Alabama who could send me photographs of the disclaimer...especially if a disgusted student is holding the book. I'm also interested in hooking up with people who might be semi-influential in the 2010 governor's race...since the governor has a big say in how backward the state is. Drop me a line if you want to help.
