 Soil question and purpling question.

So, I have run out of FF soil, and I'm not really in any position to buy a new bag. That shits expensive, and it costs too much for me to ship it unfortunately.
I know I won't be getting the benefits of that soil anymore, but I plan on supplementing it with more nutes earlier on.
Can anyone suggest some Walmart brand soil that'll get the job done? Miracle Grow or something? I know stuff for tomatoes is usually preferable.
And I know the purpling is a gimmick, but I bought a pick and mix Purple Haze plant I'm going to germ soon. I plan on vegging it until the nights get colder, then flowering. I'm wondering around what temps it has to be for the plants to purple up nicely (if they have the genetics obviously) and I heard something about ice water?

Get yourself a good bag of potting soil with no nutrients added. Get a good 1 part food like Flora Nova or something like that and you'll be fine.
Wether the nutrients come added to the soil or if you give them to the plants doesn't matter as long as they get the nutrients 
Want purple keep it in the 60s at night.
and the ice water is good for making cool-ade not for plants.

I think you need warm water for koolaid lol. The ice water really doesn't work? Aww. I heard ice water in the last week of flowering should really bring out the purples in the plants. I think I should have no problem getting it down to the 60's at night in there this winter. Coooool deal.
Any suggestions on which bag of Miracle Grow though? Or will any of them work?

lol that was kinda funny the whole Myc bag. I might lay a few cakes around my plants and also throw some perlite for humidity.
Anyways I used scotts premium potting soil. Its the only decent thing I could find at home depot. It seems to be doing the trick.

Being that it's a response to cold weather, is it safe to assume that the purpling is designed to allow the plant to absorb more heat during the day?

what are the pros and cons of purpling?
i was wondering if the purpling (caused by stress?)
lowers the potency? or does it lower the ability of the plant to further produce thc and resins and or mature?
i would image it has to because if not i feel more people would do it for bag appeal.

The reason the plants turn purple when in the cold is the purple is caused by a chemical (I forget the name of it) that acts as a antifreeze. Other then a color change and a little difference in taste there is no difference between green weed and purple.

but a difference in taste,how ever small it is (assuming you dont mean better)
would directly relate to the ability to stop producing or maturing oils and resins?
wouldn't that effect curing too?

Depends on the person. Many love the taste of purple weed, others the green but as far as potency and the oils there is no difference.

Would the plant turn purple from just one night of 60 temps? Or is it like a over time type thing?
