Plasma TV repair.
    #453023 - 07/29/10 11:09 PM (14 years, 4 months ago)

I sell and repair electronics for a living but I'm specialized in what I do so I figured when my 50" plasma went out it would be best to let a specialist in that dept handle it. Wrong.

No I do not want any service from you. I already feel ripped off for the $115.00 diagnostic fee. I will be taking that up with my credit card provider. A proper diagnostic would determine exactly which board is bad at least. An actual good one would determine the cheap component on the board itself. Any idiot could come out, take a quick look, call in for support to tell them how to do their jobs and determine that it could be one of three boards.

No thanks.

Instead of spending an additional 525.31 with you to replace every board that it might be I have already ordered the most likely board (npx704mg-1) for $70.00, which is nearly half what you want to charge me for that part.

I'm pretty sure I can handle simply plugging in that replacement board as easily as you find plugging your customers to be.

STFU and GTFO!

Subject: HDRepair Vizio TV Repair Estimate - Reference *******

**********

Attached you will find your billing statement.  The attached estimate contains pricing for parts that reflect a reduced rate. This reduced rate is made available to you because HDRepair ships your old parts back to the manufacturer and receives a "core" credit. If you wish to keep your defective parts please advise HD Repair of your intention BEFORE the repair is performed and we will provide you with an updated repair estimate. The updated repair estimate will be more expensive because the "core credit" will not be applied.

We ask that you review the attached estimate and reply via email to confirm that you would like to proceed with your order as we need your acceptance in writing.  Once we have received confirmation for your service request, we will submit your credit card for payment, order the parts and schedule an appointment.  Please reply within five (7) business days, starting today, or the price may vary.  In addition, it may take 1 – 2 business days to process this order.

Please contact us directly with any questions you may have at (800) 713-2671.

Thank you for your business!
HDRepair Corporation

Over 90% of our service orders are repaired with our first onsite visit.  This service does not guarantee a repair.  If a panel issue is found we will not be able to fix the unit as the panel itself is a non-field replaceable item.  HDRepair will not be held liable if the issue is related to an outside source (Cable Box, Satellite Dish, Bad Wires, etc).

If you are unable to make the pre-scheduled appointment, you have 24 hours to contact the main office to reschedule.  If we are not contacted and the technician arrives at your location, you will be charged a rescheduling fee of $100.

HDRepair will not perform the repair if the unit is not removed from the wall-mount; this will result in a $100 rescheduling fee.

No not that simple.

Knowing enough about electronics to know what I can and can't do with what, before I even called them to begin with, I researched the symptoms on the net and compared them to documented common repairs on that model. I tore it down and cleaned it up. I inspected all of the boards for the obvious such as Swollen or busted caps, burned resistors and circuit traces, blown fuses etc...

I didn't know what circuits to run down for what tolerances etc... So I called Vizio support.

They charged me 115.00 to send out a "tech" and his helper because of the TV size.

The "tech" that came out needed help in using his 20.00 multi meter. Seemed bewildered by the insides of my TV. Didn't have a clue what to even look for. Called his company's support who walked him through a few things and transferred him to some other support person who seemed to know what his shit but not how to work it through the non functional "tech" that was here. :nonono:

I'm in the electronics repair bus too. If I did this sort of shit my business never would have launched successfully, let alone support 2 and sometimes 3 families.

Sad thing is. Old school repair techs who actually know something are too expensive these days it seems. I seriously think I need to make a career shift.

That's customer support for ya.  Any time I have to call and talk to people to get someone sent out because of ISP probelms, they seem to have no clue what the fuck is going on.  Never really had problems with the flat screen here, but it's like that with a lot of stuff nowadays man whether it be ISP, electronics (like you're talking about) or dealing with stuff online (accounts n whatnot).  And let me guess, if you were to work on the tv yourself or get anybody besides one their "techs" to work on it, it voids the warranty, right?

What exactly is it you do?  What field and all that?
