Technaflora and soil.
    #441073 - 07/02/10 03:50 PM (14 years, 5 months ago)

Ok so at wakarusa they were handing out free kits of their WHOLE line of nutrients.

On the feeding schedule its instructions are set up for hydroponic growing, and on the bottles of BC BOOST, GROW, and BLOOM they have "hydroponic solution" on them.

But...also on the instructions it states "For soil/soilless mediums use a schedule of FEED, WATER, WATER"

Does this mean I can use these nutrients in a non hydro setup also then?

Soil is a little different from Hydro. First the soil only needs to be watered so often. Sounds like you are on the right track.

yeah they can be used with soil, just do what they say and only feed every other or every third watering. And like fungi said, you obviously don't water every day like you would with hempy's or Coco

Hydroponic grade nutrients seem to accumulate more in true soils (dirt) than they do in coco or peat. I think if growing in a real black earth soil that 1/3 feed strength might be appropriate. I've used Canna nutrients on soil and tried feeding 12ml of each Coco A and B every other day and noticed excessive salt build up. I reduced it to about 1/3 strength and fed with every watering with the odd plain watering every week or so and that seemed to work for me.

So i'll just have to use a lesser amount of the nutrients than I would usually because they are hydro grade?

It has to do with the soil more so than the nutrients.

Coco drains better and isn't as dense as soil. When feeding say General Hydroponics the soil accumulates salts more than it would in coco. I feed 1/3 the amount in soil that is proven to work in coco, I don't know if this is a good guideline but it worked for me and made sense when explained to me. Coco also holds far more roots than soil which may have something to do with it.

Well I'm using FFOF. I was thinking about just using a fraction as you mentioned, like 1/4 or 1/3 whats recommended on the bottle.

I think that would be wise. It's always easier to correct under fertilization than it is to correct over fertilization.

So I used 1/3 of the recommended dosage for Boost and Bloom, and the full recommended dose of MagiCal, Awesome Blossoms, Sugar Daddy and Thrive Alive.

I am supposed to mix all of them into one gallon of water right?

Dosages are per gal usually or litre. Read the labels.

They said per gal I was just kind of "For real?" when it said to mix all five nutes into one gallon of water.

Well yeah, if you mix them into seperate gals they would be diluted further.

Does it say on any of the bottles "Feed during weeks 3-5 of flower" or anything like that?

That chart says to feed once then water twice. I think this is essentially the same effect as feeding 1/3 strength.

Boost is to be mixed first. This is because if mixed last or after whatever components it will percipitate out of the solution, it must be diluted before meeting it's friends.

I don't know what Sugar daddy, or awesome blossoms do. I can assume Magical is calcium and Thrive alive is vitamins. I'd just follow their directions if you decide to alternate waterings and feedings I still think I'd dilute the recipe a bit, 100% suggested feeding is usually too much with any brand.

Yeah I did not do 100 percent with the Boost and Bloom, I did 1/3. But I used 100% everything else. I did add boost first as it said. Probably going to do feed, water, water, water, feed...just cause it takes a gallon of water to water all 12 plants and I don't have much nutes as it was just a sample kit.

Thanks you for your advice and your input, its much appreciated :]

Is your soil ammended? How often do you need to water? I typically water every 3 days in soil so I couldn't imagine feeding 33% strength stretched by 3 waterings. For me that would be like feeding every 2 weeks. I hope your soil contains some sort of food. I'd possibly supplement my soil with compost, bat guano, blood meal, or worm castings if I was feeding that little that often.

well all soil should contain "food" otherwise it's just dirt (ie parent material)

If I veg a plant for 6 weeks and deplete the reserves of my soil, that soil is now referred to as dirt?

I always thought of soil as either being fertile(fortified/amended) or depleted. However that's just my personal opinion and isn't based on any sort of actual definition.
