I would give you a link but I dont know what the commercials were about or what was in them. They themselves were not in the commercial, just their music. I should have made that clear.

meh.  People that like a band until the band gets popular aren't music lovers, they're just in love with the identity the music gives them. :2cents:

I dont completely agree with that statement. Usually when a band gets huge the music starts to suck because they are no longer producing music on a smaller scale. Also when they get huge they become sellouts most of the time. I think I can count the number of bands that are huge and still arent sellouts on one hand.

Usually their sound starts to sound different due to either change caused by time,
to become popular,
or to keep the audience.
Usually when it goes mainstream its stops becoming experimental and starts to become more of an organized sound to please the fame.
sometimes the change happens before the fame and sometimes after.
I could lists lots of bands that were amazing and they slowly changed their sound throughout their career resulting in a different (more wide variety of audience)
for some odd reason it most always changes to that radio sound that I dont understand why is popular.
But not every group of course.
And most of this is just my opinion but a bands sound almost always does not sound the same album to album on the timeline.
Some people prefer that underground sound rather than the popular sound, me being one of them/

You make the assumption that their music wouldn't have changed
had they not made an album or became popular
and that is a big fucking assumption

People are afraid to experiment once they are famous for fear of losing all their money.

exactly.

unless they have had an awesome reputation for many years.

But I cant say all of them are afraid to experiment a little while in the spotlight.
but it limits it.
Just look at pink floyds Ummagumma compared to the wall.

I have never heard of the magnetic 0's  either

All music/people evolve and change
to claim that they don't/won't is foolish

to claim that fame is the cause for the change is ignorant

Im really not assuming that.
I never said that that would be the only reason for their change in sound. it just has its impact.
I could agree with both perspectives to a point

the sound will change in a group no matter what and I gave an example with floyd even though they became famous they still experimented but to a limit, I even said that from album to album the sound will change, drastically or not depends on them and circumstances around them. I couldnt speak for a group obviously
but Fame may change sound depending how the group may look at it and how drastically they may change for the audience.

But also I listen to underground groups that have 100+ albums that in most of the albums keep that original vibe even though they sound different.

I think our opinions of How big of a change in the sound of the band actually makes them sound a lot different if that makes sense.
but you cant say fame doesnt influence even a little bit.

Take a look at Genesis, Listen to selling england by the pound compared to the invisible touch... peter left because he felt he was being held back in his career to become more famous on broadway and he changed the sound of his music, genesis sounded pretty much the same for a while then slowly as they got more famous their songs went from total progressive music to extreme Pop love tunes...
Im not saying fame was anywhere near the biggest reason their sound changed but it does play a role. more towards the end nothing sounded like their first few albums...

but also look at Korn they sounded pretty much the same even after they became famous but then their last 2 albums took a shit IMO

I agree with both parts
but dont assume That I think thats the only reason for a group changing their sound because its not and I never meant to sound like I was saying that... but fame does have an impact just like everything else in the members life impacts their music
just as they get older their thought processes change which will influence their music.
Ive noticed when a group changes drastically its usually either when theirs problems that have arised like a member quiting.

I agree with you siek, when bands become more "popular" they tend to stay safe by playing things that the mainstream would want to hear. That is why I dont like a lot of bands when they get popular.

usually if a group is on the radio and their descent, They usually have songs that are 5 times better on the rest of the album thats not on the radio.

Im not speaking for all though.
