Hey, I was wondering if any of you out there have tried to use smashed up wood coals to fertilize your grows, and if you have how did it do? I know that it works pretty good for normal vegetable gardens, but I wasn't sure if it was a good idea for weed. Just wanted to ask before I experiment.

Charcoal used in horticultural applications is not there for feritlization. There are many ideas/theories on what it does, but the truth is, it does about as much as chunky vermiculite or perlite. It improves drainage and helps retain oxygen in your soil.

So would it be advisable to use it, or should I just leave it out?

I think it depends on the type of grow you use.
An organic grow may benefit from coal IF you plan on recycling your soil. Look up terra preta on wikipedia...its an ancient practice of creating very rich soils and char is a big part of it. I've been thinking about it for some time, and may include it in an upcoming grow.
