So, tl;dr last year I got robbed. They took my drying mushrooms from my grow, but were too stupid to take the dried ones and the ones in the fruiting chamber left over. They also stole what was left of my first ever home-grown plant. I never quite DID find out who it was, but I'm rather sure it was a neighbor kid who is only here for the summer.
He left the day after my house got robbed (which furthers my belief it was him) and I experimented with a shit ton of motion-detection software for my webcam.
A year later, hes here...and I never found one I liked last year. I was just browsing, and found the most simple one EVER.
The only two drawbacks are that you have to leave your computer/webcam on the whole time you want it to detect, and it doesn't have a date/timestamp. This is the first (free) program I've found that does exactly what I want.
Also - you can get webcams for next to nothing here:
Considering we all have similar hobbies, and whatnot...this might be great for you guys! I'm wondering if you get multiple cams, if you could run multiple instances of this program and have multiple views! I'll test it out better when I get the chance!
Edit: I went to the owners site, and it turns out that its a pay program now...however, it DOES include timestamps now...not worth $30 to me, this works just as good
-------------------- Of course it's happening inside your head.
Why should that mean it isn't real?
Yawcam is pretty effective for my purposes in this regard. I use it to insure that people who take care of our animals when we're out of town for a few days don't fuck with anything in our office. You can set it up to email you pictures every time it senses motion. Gives me a piece of mind while I'm out of town.
Regardless of what software you choose you need to be sure the pics/video/whatever is hosted somewhere other than your computer because pics on your computer won't do you any good if they steal that too.
