So I have been heavily training a 3 mothers the past few months. They are mandala's speed queen. I traded one of them for a chrystal mother plant that my co-op partner was cloning from. My grow buddie doesn't train his plants at all. So when he got mine he took the rope off and let it take off...and it sure as hell did.
The fans on the plants that are trained are super small, the largest fans could fit inside the palm of my hand. Now when my friend took the ropes off his plant it stretched right out and the fans exploded to the size of my entire hand.
Can any vets help me wrap my head around this? I'm sure it's something simple, or maybe strain specific. It's just been on my mind lately.

This is all within the same grow room. We're co-op'n a grow. The only differnce is the fertilizer he gave it...it's some junk time released fertilizer....I think the npk was 10-10-10. Prior to the trade the plant was getting grow big, super thrive, ecovie and nitrozime's kelp extract. I would guess I noticed a major difference within 2 weeks or so....not sure though
My un-educated guess is that the plant had to produce larger leaves to help support the growth/stretch it experienced in that time period. Makes sense I suppose...larger leaves to help sustain the extra areas of growth. Though it mainly just stretched...with lots of space between nodes.

All seed plants that I grow untrained have the largest fans of them all. Next comes untopped clones. My FIM'd clones and plants have by far the most nodes and tops, yet have the smallest fan leaves. The thing is, they cover the same amount of surface area so neither has in advantage in that regard. I almost prefer the smaller leaves because like smaller grains of sand, they fit together with less airspace in between, yet they don't seem to block light penetration quite as much.
