With a 1000 watt light you'll probably be buying an 8 inch fan. However, to really give proper tips on ventilation the dimensions of your flowering area are a good thing to know.
Quote:
Max Recirculating (Scrubbing) CFM: 2040 cfm / 3400 m³h Max Exhaust CFM: 1020 cfm / 1700 m³h @ 0.1 sec contact time Recommended Min Airflow: 510 cfm / 850 m³h

If we know how big your space is, it's easier to take a look at the specs like the one above to help find a good fit.

I'm unsure of size because I plan to make the grow space smaller than the whole closet with black poly and a staple gun. but I wanted the floor space to be at least 4ft length x 4ft width with maybe 6ft of height. There will be 2 chambers like this with one for veg and one for flower. I planned on putting the can filter inside the flowering chamber with fresh air intake from the closet for odor control..... and maybe another canfilter inside the closet for good measure. The veg room will just have fans and cfls for clones to get about 2-3ft before flowering.

one large can filter should work well
make sure you put the can & fan before the lights in the airflow, have the fan pulling air from the can then pushing it thru the lights then out to exhaust
this way if there are any leaks it just pushes the stray air back into the room, as opposed to pulling stanky air in thru leaks and exhausting

I thought 2 would work better...... because I plan to build them very large, just in case of a bigger load.

Here's your best way to make sure you don't have any smell coming out.
Build/buy one filter that sits in your room and has a fan attached but is just recirculating the air inside your grow space. That way your grow space isn't reeking to high heavens to begin with.
Second, have a carbon filter attached to your exhaust. No need to have 2 carbon filters on one line.

I intended to have one recirculating the air inside the grow and another can filter with fan inside the closet unattached to the grow to add a little extra odor control. Is this too much? I figured it couldn't hurt to be sure....... all my previous grows have been kinda smelly without any odor control. setup would be: intake>inline fan>duct>cooled hood>duct>can filter>duct>exhaust closet: can filter attached to fan recirculating air.
