The first arrest for allegedly possessing mephedrone came just hours after it was made illegal.
A man in his 20s was held at a house in Bewdley, Worcs., yesterday after police found the drug, plus ecstasy and cannabis there. He was later freed on bail.
Mephedrone - also known as meow meow - became an illegal Class B drug from midnight on Friday. The maximum sentence for dealing or trafficking it is 14 years.
