Good thing our very limited resources are being put to good use
http://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/news/2010/04/library-of-congress-were-archiving-every-tweet-ever-made.ars
Get ready for fame, tweeters of the world: the Library of Congress is archiving for posterity every public tweet made since the service went live back in 2006. Every. Single. Tweet.
The LOC announced the news, appropriately enough, on Twitter. Twitter isn't just about being pretentious and notifying the world about the contents of your lunch (though it's about those things too).
Matt Raymond, one the Library's official bloggers, notes that "important tweets in the past few years include the first-ever tweet from Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey, President Obama’s tweet about winning the 2008 election, and a set of two tweets from a photojournalist who was arrested in Egypt and then freed because of a series of events set into motion by his use of Twitter."

"So if you don't want history to remember that burrito you had for dinner last night (and its aftermath), tweet carefully—now it's for posterity."
I am not sure what to think of this. I want to know how much effort, time, and money was spent on this. I can see how this could be useful in the future though.

Another reason to NOT use twitter, besides the obvious ones.

Social networking sites and this thing twitter really bewilder me. How do people find the time to write about what they are doing all the time?

The same way you find time to post on the growery.

Personally, seems like a reason to use twitter.
But I still won't.

That is what I think, think of it this way. There are high school and college student today, that one day will be famous (for either cool or stupid things. Ranging from actors to groundbreaking scientists).
To me the idea is sound, and it is cool that they are going to archive the data. I just really hope it is cheap, efficient, or mostly automated.
I would really prefer all three.
Thought about posting this earlier, didn't find it all that interesting. I mean it is the library of congress, and a library is just a collection of writings. Why not include every tweet? Historically this seems like a big deal. People 5 years from now will be able to go "Oh, some user by the name of Harry_Ba11sach took a shit on X day."

Acceptable use of Twitter.

Some twitters are good to subscribe to, I subscribe to game companies I like, and some news.
I get them sent to my phone in a text, so whenever there is any big announcement I get texted it.
I don't even know what people do with it that tweet themselves, I sure as hell don't.
