Moisture level needed?

Heya, I've just germinated 4 seeds, and have now put them in small pots with soil made for seedlings (for good root growth apparently).
I can't seem to find a clear answer on how much water they need?
I've just been putting a little water in the tray in which they sit, as well as spraying the top so the soil is a little damp, is that about right?
Cheers

until they germinate you basically want the soil to be completely wet. some people even germinate by just dropping the seeds into a glass full of water so you don't need to worry about over watering until they're completely sprouted.
now once they've popped out the tap root then it's a different story

Umm... I think you misunderstood? They -have- germinated, and are now in soil, how much water should I give them?

None until the soil that they are in has dried out a bit. The number one mistake most beginners make is over watering.

You don't want standing water constantly in the tray, thats just asking for root rot.

One of my 4 plants has popped out! Yay
They're not standing in water, I just spray a little water in the tray now and then, and mist the surface of the soil a little.

If you just put saran wrap over the tops of your containers it will act as a mini green house in there. Which is ideal for seedlings that are germinating.
Now that one has popped up just leave it be. There's plenty of water in the soil for it to get going without watering it for awhile.
Remember, over watering is one of the biggest mistakes beginners make.

Ok thanks for the tips !
All 4 have now popped out, the tallest one being about an inch now
So I'll wait for the soil to really dry before watering again then, how long does that take usually? They're in fairly small pots atm

about 4-5 days would be my guess, but it really depends on the soil you have. If you have an extra pot and some of your soil you should fill it up and see how much it weighs dry, and then see how much it weighs wet to give you a general idea of when it's dry
