Harvesting bud twice?
    #370742 - 02/22/10 03:01 PM (14 years, 8 months ago)

I was just wondering, is it possible to harvest your plant, then it can re-bud again in a few months?

Yes, leave some of the "popcorn" buds on the lower portion of the plant the first time you harvest it.  Then put it back into vegetative conditions.  After a week or two will start to see new growth coming from all parts of the popcorn buds.  It will look retarded at first but then it will eventually turn into normal looking new growth shoots.  Each popcorn bud may put out multiple shoots, so the more popcorn buds you leave the better.  Some people call this monster cropping so you may find more info by searching for that.  Here is one of my monster cropped moms.  You can see the remnants of some of the popcorn buds down at the bottom of the plant.

This technique is actually called revegging, but the number of buds left has nothing to do with how it works.  The rest of the description is pretty accurate, but you'll get better info if you google revegging than if you google monster cropping.

Yea and you will get a bunch or people asking "Can I take this plant that is in flower that looks dank and reveg it to get it bigger."  That is the only reason I told him monster cropping, because that is specifically revegging a plant that has been harvested, as he was asking.  And how is the number of buds not relevant?  The new growths grow from the buds that are left.  At least every time I have done it that is how it worked.

dj shorts book (i think that's the one) gives a great description of how to revegg a plant.  I think it's def. worth trying out.  That's another method used to take clones kind of after the fact.  If you have a plant that you find out smokes great and you didn't take any clones and want more of that bud you can reveg and take clones and flower again or keep as your mother.

edit:
the book just happened to be right next to me.  he actually calls it re-greening.  pg 35 if anyone has it.  Photo-period response is the biggest factor it seems.

edit2:

HA!

edit3:
that appears to be the entire book.  I suggest you spend an hour or two and read it.  It's easy to read and is full of interesting information and personal experiences.

Hell yea, that would be awesome, as I have 0 books on cannabis.

The internet is one hell of a book, though, I think it would be found in the fiction aisle.

It does indeed work well, and I'm surprised you haven't heard more about it, because it's very common practice.

I would probably only do it exactly like Furrowed said, in case I find a killer pheno and like in my case, only 1 of 6 clones survived (facepalm moment, no need to elaborate), so if any of those plants have a super awesome finished product (which you can't tell by a vegging plant), I'm going to reveg them, because they are f1's, and there could be some amazing finds in there.  I'm so excited, I opened the cab today to a nice aroma of berries!  I didn't expect that, I was thinking it would smell skunky, being as super skunk makes up some of the genetics...

Nope, I breed the plants specifically for a berry or fruity smell and taste.

I read alot but somethings do get by me. If the clone room remodel is done before harvest I may try this for fun.

Thanks for all the great feedback guys! On a completely different subject, my first plant is about 1 month old so last night I decided to pinch the top of it so it could grow out more. I don't know to much on the subject, so when I woke up this morning to check on it, I noticed the spot where I pinched it was growing in kinda weird. is this normal?

Besides that the plant is looking very healthy:thumbup:

here's some pics:
