I read in another thread that a fan for cooling lights should push air so the heat from the lights will not affect the fan. Makes sense to me but
I've already installed the fan pulling air.
Read that a fan works best pulling than pushing.Is this true?
So my question is will this hurt the fan? Shorten its life?
I need some feed back.

Technically, a fan works better pulling than pushing.
In reality, a fan has to push the SAME amount of air that it is pulling. You can't pull a lot of air and only push a little out. The amounts are equal.
As far as the heat from the bulb causing a shorter fan life? I cannot say for certain, but it seems logical that the internal components (specifically bearings) would last longer running at a cooler temperature.
If your fan has a 3-5 warranty and you run it all the time, who cares. In 3-5 years the fan will have more than paid for itself anyway.
I'm not telling anyone to tear down their setup and arrange it different. But for people setting up a new space it is definitely something to consider.

You guys are thinking to much. Quit sweating the small stuff. Inline fans are good and cheap as hell from home-depot. Just calculate your CFMs(multiply length by width by height), upsize it by half for your outtake air and a fan that matches your CFMs for your intake. I always pull my air off the light. I don't care if over time my little inline fan may break down. It is just a fan. Made by humans. It is not going to last forever. All I care about is spoiling my girls.
