Russian Rocket Fuel Autoflowering - 2nd Indoor Grow - 150w HPS

Hey folks. Been a member of shroomery for a good long time, now I am starting my transition over to growery!
I just finished up my first indoor grow about a month ago. It consisted of 5 feminized Russian Rocket Fuel autoflowering seeds by Short Stuff. I started 3 initially, and neglected them. They died. Started the remaining 2. One turned out to be male! No lose, because I pollinated the female and ended up with 16 grams of fine bud, as well as about 60 seeds in 75 days. (Grown under 150 watts of CFL, in 3/4 gallon pot with MG moisture control soil. No nutrients/food was given to the plant at all, just plain water from day one) I was pretty happy with the results of this grow, considering I put minimal effort into it, and the rewards were fantastic.
Now its time to get a little more serious, but not balls to the wall grow op!
I have started 3 Russian Rocket Fuel seeds that I made. Germ'd them, and planted one on 1/22/10, one on 1/25/10, and one 1/26/10.
I am using 1 gallon Tropicana Orange Juice containers as pots, with Miracle Grow Moisture Control Soil again. This time, instead of 150 watts of CFL, I will be using a 150w HPS. Lighting will be set at 18/6 for the entire grow.
Of the 3 seeds, 2 females, one male.
Now to some pictures, these are the most recent, as of today.
2/17/2010
I may or may not use the male to make seeds again. It is getting time to decide. I have 50 seeds remaining, so i think I will just let these two girls grow out without pollination.
Any and all comments/suggestions are welcome!
I will make all updates to this first post.
2/24/2010
Well, the male is long gone. I have plenty of seeds, so I chopped him. The plants are about 12 to 14 inches tall now. I tried feed it 1/4 strength MG all purpose food, but they seem to be getting an eagle claw leaf. I'm gonna let em dry out and keep going with plain water. Also, I forgot to mix in extra perlite to the soil, and it is compacting quite a bit now, and not drying as fast. Is there anything I can do to fix this?
Here are a couple pictures to go along.
As you can see, the claw was obvious. I hear this is due to one of many things, mainly overwatering, too much N, or pH, or any combination of these.
3/10/2010
An Update is due. The Plants have completely recovered from the claw, and are doing amazingly. One is at 6 weeks and 5 days, while there other is 3 days behind it. About 3 to 4 weeks to go on these babies. Here are some pictures of the setup right now. They are thriving under 24 hours of light. No nutes have been given since the Miracle Gro error. I will be sticking with nute-less growing from now on.
3/19/2010
Quick Update:
Plant 1 is 8 weeks old today from being put in soil. Hopefully two more weeks til chop chop! It is still about 19" tall from the top of the soil, and is just adding thickness and trichs now!
Plant 2 is 3 days behind plant 1. This plant is about 23" tall from the top of the soil. It is getting thicker, but trich coverage isn't as nice as plant 1. Neither plant are as covered as I'd like them to be.
I am shooting for 1.5oz from these two plants. If I get this I will be more than happy. I want to wait until trichs are atleast 25% amber so it isn't so racy, so I might need another 3 weeks. Still feeding them nothing. Only water.
What does everyone think?
4/16/2010 Wanted to put some closure to this.
One plant harvested 70 days from breaking soil, the other 67. Averaged almost an oz per plant of stinky, sticky potent bud. Someone just offered me $300 for an oz.

Thanks for all the support fellow growers.
Updated the first post, and started using the growery photo system instead of photobucket.

One was put into soil on 1/22, and the other 1/25, so just about a month old. I am having some temperature issues in my closet. They seem to be going up to the high 80s and sometimes low 90's when the door is closed! This is scary! I have a huge box fan running in there, as well as a small 4" fan directly on the plants. I am trying to work something else out, but nothing seems to be keeping the temps down. Any tips?

well you need to have air actually entering and exiting the grow space in order to make any discernable difference on ambient temperatures. just having air circulating within the closet won't do anything to keep temps down, you have to actively remove hot air

Sounds like I am gonna have to leave the closet open then, unfortunately. This is a surprise to me, as temps a week ago were fine!
Thanks for the advice harry_

You should at least try and make a exit at the top. This is how my tent is.
Into the ducting and out the window
There is also a fan on the other side of that cool tube pushing air through it, I can touch the bottom of the tube and keep my hand there without getting burned, its crazy, but it still gets up in the lower 80's some times. I leave my door open sometimes. Try pointing a fan at the light from below, that will help.

Thanks for the tip. Tough to rig something like that up for me. I think I will just move them to my basement. Only problem is, it is at most 50* F down there, and that's at mid day. Over night it stoops into the low 40's! This would mean I would have to leave my light on for 24 hours for the warmth. The oldest is 5 weeks old from being put into soil. Should be finished first week in April. I will allow one plants to go to 50/50 trichs and one for 75/25 (cloudy/amber).

Well this is my opinion, my temps get up in the low 80 - 84 range but never burn because I always have a fan blowing over the plants, constantly as long as that light is on. Get another fan, and try and organize them around the room to see where you can put them at to get the lowest temps. Eventually heat issues should be fixed though.
1 week 7 more to go
Did you have any genetic problems with the seeds? Two of my four are little runts and don't really want to grow but the other two blasting off. That's why I want to pop the other 6 seeds.

What I found was that some of these RRF's were little runts, slow growing, for the first 4 weeks or so. Then after week four, BOOM. They hit a growth streak like no other, and grow up an inch a day!
I ended up putting them in my basement, in a storage bin with the light shining down into it. The ambient temps mixed with the heat of the HPS should blend nicely in the tub.
Also, dont expect these to be anywhere near done in 8 weeks.
My last one took 11 weeks from seed to harvest, and that was at 5-10% amber, a little soon if you ask me.

I have a 400w HPS Plus I add plenty of nutrients to the water so they get lots of love.
I know the two that are blasting off will be done in that time, but the other two might take 10 - 11 weeks. The thing about autos like this is the breeder usually gives you the time range of 1 - 60 days finished. I guess that depends on how you want your weed to be though. I like a little amber, but not much. I like really really heady highs that spark my creativity, so I can spin some vinyl or work on my burner bike for this years burn
But really, I kind of care about how long till harvest time lines, but not really as long as I have lots of buds for 420 this year. I want the upstairs of my house to get cloudy.

Haha Understood I too like the cloudy/creative heady smoke for day smoke, leaving my amber trich'd babys for night time puts the day away kind of smoke.
Be careful on nutes. They're pretty sensitive, but once you find the right level you're golden.
I hope your harvest are bountiful for 4/20!

There ya go!
Yeah, I test all my plants with 1/3 strength, then if they can tolerate it well I move them up to 1/2 strength and then full strength if they can handle it. I have all ready gave my babies 1/3 strength and they seem to be taking it really well.

Yes I do not use nutes with autos. There is just enough in the MG soil I use to last about 6-7 weeks, which is perfect, considering a flush is immediately following.

Thanks man. All I know is that it is the best bud that has been around these parts in a long time, and my friends are jealous!
Boy I love growing. This was my second indoor grow. The first was with the parents of these two. I had a seed run with my orignal RRFs under CFL. This grow was easy as it gets. 150watt hps. In Miracle Gro Moisture Control in a small grow tent. Let it sit for 70 days, make sure it doesnt dry out. Thats literally how much attention I gave it, and it resulted in an oz per plant of dank buds. Which will last me over a year!
