 Water temps while germinating?

I accidently soaked my peat pellets in some pretty cold water then put my seeds in. Is this bad for the seeds?

Only if you keep them in the cold. Keep em someplace where they will get into the 80's. Next time don't start them in peat pellets.
Yeah yeah I know people love em but they have a ph that is threw the roof much better to start them in the soil they are going to go into. Plus you can make a cup and suran wrap green house that you don't have to water until the seed sprouts.

I couldnt start them in perlite though. That is what I'm using for my substrate. They wont stay cold for long.  I dont know if anywhere in my house is 80.... but under that light they will get warm for sure.

I don't see any reason you couldn't start them in perlite. Just do it in a small cup, then transfer to your bigger pot after.

Nope, just that I shouldnt. I suppose it wouldnt give the taproot something to hold it up. Beats me though.

Sure it would, if you pack the perlite down it would give more than enough support for the first stages. If it's strong enough to hold an entire plant it can hold a seedling.

it may have been me that said that, I can't remember. If I did I was thinking just about the perlite retaining enough water for germination. if you germinate it in a paper towel or something and then transfer to the peat it would be great though

I can see how that could be a problem, I would just saran wrap it though like any other cup that's germinating. And like Magash I don't really like the peat thingys.

yeah I don't really like the peat pellets either to be honest but just because of the pH issues of the peat itself.
I use rapid rooters right now but just because I bought a bag awhile ago.... I don't honestly have a preference for them but I use em cause I got em

Yeah i like rockwool, for some reason when I used the rapid rooter things they didn't appeal to me either. But I have friends who swear by em. It's really just a preference thing.

I was going to suggest rockwool as well. You were just at the hydro store. that rockwool is good stuff to have around. i like it.

Doesn't rockwool have a goofy PH too that you have to adjust for or let them soak forever or something?

All you have to do is dip them in pH balanced water. No need to soak. I've used them even without adjusting the pH of the water with no problems at all.
