Do you have any sources.....
I'm writing my final paper its 15 pages about why legalizing/decriminalizing would help the latin american countries...
Any sources?? Any thoughts??

Well the cartels fuel most of their violence and arm trades through the sale of illegal drugs. Most of these criminal organizations could not exist without illegal drug profits. That's by far the strongest argument imo.

As I understand it most latin americans have already decriminalized marijuana to some extent.

Yea but the cartels supply a lot to the US so if we were to produce our own wouldn't it take it out of the hands of the cartels...Thats kind of where I'm going

That and decriminalization isn't the same as legalization. Decriminalizing drugs does nothing to stop the illegal drug cartels from making profits.

What's your thesis here, just that it will be beneficial to legalize drugs (or just pot) in latin america or the US or world wide? I'm sure there are some studies on the subject. None that I have read though. I will see what sources I can come up with for ya.

that last one was an article in the Journal of Interamerican Studies and World Affairs. Sounds like a good source. All of those are good quality sources.
All I did to get those five sources was to go to google scholar (http://scholar.google.com/) and type in combinations to find teh information you are looking for. Man i wish I had that when i was in school. You can view those entire books up above.

I suspect there will be a cascade of legalization after the US sets things straight, then the UN, then other westernized countries. What class is this for? Is there to be any sort of slant on it or aiming it toward a particular area of study? i guess im just asking what exactly are your instructions here?

The University of Alabama has this thing called new college now...I'm basically doing independent research and I have to have a 15 page paper by april with a 20 minute presentation.

Have you read those articles I posted yet? If not i would spend the day reading them and taking notes. I'm sure you can do that while your blitzed.  I would bet that while you read those articles you make some new connections or questions that may help you progress your thesis.
