Barney's Farm - Red Dragon (fem) 100% Organic
    #338617 - 01/01/10 08:16 PM (15 years, 1 month ago)

I'm starting my 3rd grow now after having a rather successful grow last round with some bagseed and a Barney's Blue Cheese that really turned out well (please let me know if you'd like to see any pics from my previous grow!)

Barney's Farm has a lot of excellent strains that i plan to work my way through in the next few years along with others.  Check out this grow which has just reached day 17 from seedling.  There are 5 plants:

3x BF Red Dragon (fem)
1x bagseed
1x Mr.NICE Dreamtime (reg)  -this was left over from my 1st grow

Here's some specs on my setup followed by the latest pics of the plants from a few days ago.  I also now have 3/6 plants LST'd with the other 3 getting tied down this evening as well...

Growspace:  spare bathroom (flowering may be moved to grow tent)
Medium:  100% Premiere HP Promix
Light:  400w MH with an HPS conv bulb for flowering later on...
Nutes:  Adv Nutrients - Org Iguana Juice GROW, BLOOM, Nirvana, molasses

On with the pics!

that tub looks pretty clean.  Good luck and welcome to the Growery Dayzt!

Thanks fb!  I have high (no pun intended) expectations of this grow, as i've heard a lot of good things about the Red Dragon strain but not many journals can be found on a full grow, start to finish... The bathtub indeed makes a great vegging location until they are taller than the edge of the tub, then they either need to move into my grow-tent, or I'll have to use my card-board mylar covered wall to enclose the tub... it works well, but I don't get the proper ventilation or odor-control in the bathroom...we'll see.  I'm still trying to get my tent ready to go - need to set up the fans and circulation properly to keep the temps down inside...

Day 16 of Veg [Re: Dayzt]
    #338735 - 01/02/10 01:58 AM (15 years, 1 month ago)

Picture update

- 2/3 Red Dragons have been LST'd, 1/3 was topped.
- The bagseed plant and the Dreamtime plant were also LST'd
- In the pics, you can see the front 3 plants were LST'd 2 days ago and the back left one just this evening before the pic was taken.  The Red Dragon in the back right was topped and I kept the top in some soil/water in a plastic container with a bag over-top (back far right in pics)

Enjoy! :rasta:

Day 19 of Veg [Re: Inverted]
    #340458 - 01/04/10 10:35 PM (15 years, 1 month ago)

Picture Update

- all the kids are looking like they got a 'slap in the face' a bit from that recent round of toppin'n'tiein...lol.  Growth in the past 3 days has been slowed, but they appear to be getting a bit bushier again now.

- I'm in no rush with these, so I'm prepared to give them as much veg time as needed.  There may still be some 'choppin' coming in the next few weeks as I think i'll be trying to get a few clones this time around.

- The pics are in the same sequence this time again, with two extra pics of one Red Dragon with an interesting 3-pair node thing going on and another pic of my topped plant which now sports 6 flower sites of potential tops!

Enjoy! :leaf:

Day 22 of Veg [Re: Dayzt]
    #342865 - 01/07/10 11:16 PM (15 years, 1 month ago)

Yesterday, the plants hit their 3-week mark since seedling.  Since they've all been through the LST and topping, I think they are still a bit mad at me...lol.  But they're all still looking very healthy!  There's some yellowish leaves on the bagseed plant but they're just from below the branch that I tied down so they should have been trimmed anyway - i'll take care of them once there's a bit more room in there to trim.  I'm not sure if my clone has taken root at all, but i'll give it a bit more time before I check and plant it in a pot - can't see much inside the container it's in since the stem on that cutting was very short...

Well, on with the pics!  Not tons of change since last update but it's been 3 days so again i'm keeping up with the same progression pics. Enjoy!  :gethigh:

    #343378 - 01/08/10 04:41 PM (15 years, 1 month ago)

Thanks shrooms!  Yeah that bagseed plant is the biggest one at this point for sure.  That was seed that I found in my stash a few months ago from some decent mystery weed.  It most likely was grown close by me so I'm guessing that's why it's faster since it's in close to the same 'climate' as it's parents.  The other ones are all imports - Dutch seed companies.  :gethigh:

I've attached a layout of my plants for everyone so you can tell which plant is which at this stage.  Once they are put into flowering (probably in about 2-3 weeks) they'll all get personal names - that way it will be easy to track them right up until smoke-time and I can look back at their development and see what exacted was done to each one.  I can get more experience that way and adapt some specific ideas for future grows. :leaf:

Okay, well today is the next 3rd day which means I should be doing a pic update... but I'll be repotting everything in the next few days, by Wed at the latest so I'll get the next round of pics after they've all be repotted.

Been working on my tent to get it ready for flowering, and so far it's looking good.  I still need to finish the electrical so that the light and fans can be plugged in properly and timed for the 12/12 switch.  We'll see how the plants react to the repotting and then they'll go straight into the tent for a week or so under the 600w MH before getting switched to the 600w HPS for 12/12.  I'm thinking of taking some clones and keeping them vegging in the bathroom under the 400w, but we'll see how things turn out - don't want to stress them out too much! :gethigh:

- The plants are looking good after a successful repot Monday evening!
- Some leaves are a bit droopy looking but still healthy and new bud sites are becoming more and more distinctive.
- I watered them in to their new pots with some straight ph'd water, and tonight they had their first full dosage of veg nutes in the new pots.
- My RD clone from the topped plant didn't make it = the stem was far too short.  Oh well... still not sure if I'm going to take any clones this time 'round or not.
- Tomorrow evening, all plants will go under the 600w MH for another few weeks I'm guessing.  They still need to get about 3 inches taller at least before I even start to think about flowering.

Pic update tomorrow night after everything is setup in the new tent under the 600! :gethigh:

Okay, here's the update!  Everything is up and running now under the 600w in the new tent!  The ladies are all nice and comfortable in their new 3 gal pots and have perked up a lot since last night's feeding.  I'll be watching them closely now that their relocated - It's the first time i've put anything in that tent so I hope it's going to be okay!

Here's some pics of the plants and one of my setup - enjoy!

Okay it's been about 4 days since my last update - been watching my plants very close in this past while since it wasn't looking all that promising there for a bit...

- My temps are great in the tent now, got a fairly steady 70-73 F with around 50% humidity.
- The plants are now starting to respond nicely and have grown about and inch and a half in the past day or so.
- Two out of the 5 are showing sex - both females!  That's the bagseed plant and 1 of the dragons.
- The 3-leaved dragon is looking very 'exotic' and is a very bright green color with sturdy looking foliage and stem - she's going to be a real star!
- The Dreamtime plant is very distictive with a dark green color and stragly looking leaves - just like the other Dreamtime plants looked, but growing faster now as well with very healthy looking leaves and more bud sites than I remember it having...

...I may take a few pics this week and post 'em, we'll see.  Anyone out there want to see new pics?  :leaf:

Week 4, Day 5 of Veg [Re: Dayzt]
    #349954 - 01/18/10 11:51 PM (15 years, 1 month ago)

Here's the pic update - decided to get it done this evening.  I'm happy with how they are starting to respond now - they seem a lot more comfortable with their new home! :leaf:

There's a single pic of each plant and a group shot, plus an extra one at the end, top down of the exotic looking Red Dragon with the sets of 3 leaves.  Nice and green! =)

Week 5, Day 5 of Veg [Re: Dayzt]
    #353341 - 01/25/10 11:00 PM (15 years, 27 days ago)

Well, i'm approaching the 6 week mark which is where i'd planned to switch the plants over to 12/12. They look like they should be ready by then, but I may wait until the weekend to switch 'em all over.

Each plant is still looking really unique and the rest of the journey will be quite interesting to see which ends up performing the best!

On with the pics!!

Thanks Trip!

- The reflector is the one in the below ebay link - 600w cooltube MH/HPS

http://cgi.ebay.ca/DIGITAL-AIR-COOL-TUBE-GROW-LIGHT-600-WATT-HPS-MH-600W_W0QQitemZ330399298648QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item4ced553458

- The small white fan is just a regular desk-fan with a high and low setting, very simple.
- The intake in the bottom left corner has a 170 cfm inline fan in it but I haven't been using it much yet since it was lowering my temps a bit too much.

- The tent (better pic at the below link to my other grow journal..) is 96x48x78 in size.  Lots of room in there so I'm going really spread the girls out once they get bigger in order to get the most out of my light and space.

http://www.rollitup.org/grow-journals/246834-bagseed-barneys-blue-cheese-2.html

- Electric bills haven't been bad - maybe about 20-30$ more than normal but nothing extreme, and I've been running a 400w MH for vegging too!

Hope that helps!  =)

For controlling the smell, I have a carbon filter in the tent which has a built-in 270 CFM fan - it sucks the air into it, scrubbing it as it pushes that air through my light's cooltube and then up out the top of the tent.

6.5 Weeks Veg - Starting Flowering [Re: Dayzt]
    #355762 - 01/30/10 10:02 PM (15 years, 22 days ago)

Ok - well i'm now at 6 and a half weeks of veg for these girls and they're on thier last light cycle now, with the timer set to turn off the lights at 7 am tomorrow morning.  Just before 7 pm tomorrow night i'll remove the ducting from my cooltube and change the bulb to my HPS one for starting flowering!

Night-time temps will have to be monitored closely now since no light means no heat, and my basement isn't super warm... we'll see.  I bought a small space heater today so I can always set it up near my intake fan and have it suck warmish fresh air into the tent during the dark cycle so it doesn't get too cold.

Here's a pic update.  The first two are groups shots and then there's a pic of each plant with the last pic of the biggest red dragon in the center - looks exciting already!

It's actually a pretty good deal - the whole kit there comes with the cooltube and large metal shade, 2 bulbs (1 600w MH, 1 600w HPS), digital ballast compatible with both MH and HPS bulbs, 2x retractible light hooks and a timer.

I'm likely going to get another one of these kits in a few months so I can fill out my whole tent and have around 10-12 plants flowering in there at once...we'll see.

Well, the light was switched this evening to eht HPS bulb and the girls are looking really, really happy! It was like they appreciated the dark cycle and are looking real sexy and green under the reddish HPS light. I've been foliar spraying them quite a bit since the humidity level in the tent hangs right around 40% and the extra spray helps the leaves keep thier stomata open enough so they don't dry out on me. I've heard from a few people that the Red Dragon strain likes to have it fairly dry and extra dry in the last few weeks before harvest. I won't have any problem with that since it's so dry here - it's more of a challenge to keep the humidity level up...

Re: Growroom Pics [Re: Dayzt]
    #358468 - 02/06/10 01:24 PM (15 years, 15 days ago)

Sorry for the lack of updates lately...there wasn't a lot to see this past week as the girls adjusted to the new light cycle, but the past 3 days or so have shown some nice growth as they start to do their thing.  Tonight i'll be giving them their very first bloom feeding at 1/2 strength along with some AN Nirvana.  (I plan to get some mineral water today to use, as I'm wondering if the tap-water i've been using has been a factor - I pH down the tap-water, but it's not the same as the rain-water I used in my last grow...)

NOTES:

- The light, the filter/fan and the intake fan are all on their own timers now. The light is of course on the 12/12 setting with the light coming on at 7 pm (actually 6:50) and going off at 7 am. The filter/fan is set to be on whenever the light is on, as well as for 15 min each hour during the dark cycle to bring the humidity levels
down some. The intake fan runs for 15 min each hour the whole time and forces in nice fresh air as opposed to acting as a passive intake the rest of the time. I've noticed this works well to keep the temps more even as well during the dark cycle as long as the filter/fan isn't sucking out all the warmth the whole time, and effectively allows the whole tent/environment to 'breath' nicely as it cycles the air well. Temps and humidity are staying in the 60-75, 40%-65% range with this setup. Later on during flowering, these settings will have to change a bit so I can bring the humidity down more during the dark cycle, so that will mean changing the filter/fan to run more often with the lights off.

Pic update is planned for tomorrow evening once they've had a day to eat and drink! Stay tuned!!

End of Week 1 of Flowering [Re: Dayzt]
    #358837 - 02/06/10 11:52 PM (15 years, 15 days ago)

Okay, the girls all got food and water tonight.  I'm trying out using distilled water since I've never really tried it before and would like to compare it to my previously pH'd tapwater.

Half strength bloom nutes and Nirvana went into the 2nd and 3rd 5 litre buckets of water they received this evening.  The first 5 litre bucket of water was just straight water - didn't want to apply nuted water to the dry soil...

The pots have all been now moved down off of the styrofoam pieces now as well.  I bought some nice 14" plastic saucers with 1.5" lips on them which should work well enough to catch water that goes through the drain holes.  It will be nice to have when flushing time arrives too.

Well, here are the pics since feeding.  I was going to wait until tomorrow night but had time to do it tonight so got it all done.  There's a group shot, 1 of each plant, one of the nutes i'm using and a few of some trimmed leaves I took as well.  Enjoy!
