Would anyone be interested in seeing a grow log here? I'm going to germ them as soon as they arrive.

Yes! I would absolutely love to see a grow log. I hope to grow poppy sometime in the near future and this would be a great help. Asides from it being a beautiful plant to look at.

I know, but from what I understand, the ones with the highest psychoactive content are the least colorful

Giganthium poppies are pretty much all white and they are the largest. This theory could be true.

I'll take pictures with my KICKASS new camera that I got for Christmas, but yesterday and the day before I dug out beds for the poppies and other flowers I'm growing in my back yard, and I filled the beds with compost, manure, and a little bit of FF Happy Frog. I scattered Turkish Poppies in two small round beds, and Tasmanian Poppies in one 10 foot long bed between the two round ones.

How many double-flower somniferums do you think can fit healthily in a 2'X4' bed of some chicken manure covered with cow manure and homemade (really good) compost? also I found this article/essay interesting; what's the consensus on buying dried poppy seedpods from flower shops? http://www.wesjones.com/pollan1.htm#title

So no real updates yet here, but I did receive and plant my poppies in beds in my back yard. The tasmanians went in a large bed, and the turkish went into two smaller beds on either side. They've been out for a week now, no signs of germination, but I'm not surprised, just gotta be patient. I was concerned about the cross-breeding of the taz with the turkish, but whatever, they're both somniferum, so the seeds I get will be p. somniferum and beyond that I don't care.
The soil is a manure, compost, and happy frog blend, and I've already had a fungus gnat infestation out there. Luckily, nature balances everything, so the gnat larva get eaten, and that fixes my problem immediately. Pics will be posted when there's something to show.

Yeah, well right now my yield is looking shitty cuz none of my seeds have even germ'd yet. We got some rain these past couple of days, maybe that'll help.

Word is they don't like to be transplanted...they get really bad transplant shock so I just started them in beds outside.

My bad on giving advice w/o being informed . I wish I could start my garden here in New Orleans. I have no lights for starting seeds inside and the weather outside is spastic sunny/thunderstorms.

Probably more like ants. Those little bastards will march off with your seeds in a day. Also flies, grubs, and beatles love to eat the little seedlings and their roots.
Also you are right about the transplating. The seedlings are very fragile. Transplanting can be done but the plant needs to be fairly mature. Even then they don't like being roughed up. So be gentle.

I took Tripto's advice (with a little help from another member) and got more seeds. They are now in Jiffy plugs until they sprout and then they go outside to harden off and get stuck in the flower beds. I'm shooting for a total of 50-70 plants total.
Wish me luck!

Just take them outside a few hours a day for a week or so before you chuck them in the ground and they should be well hardened off for outdoors, good luck brother I will be following.

Quick update: Seeds went in the peat plugs on Tuesday, today I've got plugs with signs of life, some sprouts, and some cracked hull with taproots emerging. One tray of plugs was in an environment that was too cold to support germination, but after moving it those seeds cracked as well.
Nothing worth taking a picture of yet, but in the next couple of days I'll post some shots with the digicam.

I did what you did when I got my first poppy seeds, threw them in some fertile ground and waited, and waited, and waited. I'm pretty sure the birds got to them before they even stood a chance. I hope this run proves more fruitful

Nice to see they sprouted for you. I heard you can keep them inside in like an 8x8 to 10x10 under a 1000w HID, and they flower opposite lighting hours of cannabis.
