let me know what your name is on there. i've got the same name. I'm mostly a lurker over there. I should donate to their server fund. Anyway, buddy, go with the 400watt hid.
You guys want a cheap decent lamp check this out 1000 watt for $200 switchable metal halogen hps light system This is what I am going to upgrade to when I get enough cash saved up. http://discount-hydro.com/productdisp.php?pid=480&navid=53
Yeah, been thinking about it. I was intending on leaving them under some low power CFL's (About 60W) It'd mean very slow transpiration and virtually 0 soil evaporation due to heat. So the soil would probably still be somewhat moist by the end of it. Although it would be risky I agree, and undoubtedly the plants would suffer.
I'm reluctant to leave them under the HPS for longer than a few days for a number of reasons, even if I got an irrigation system set up. Fire being a major one, plants growing into the light, a noticable smell developing while I'm away(I share a house with 5 others, none of who know I grow this year).
I've almost thought out an idea about how I could irrigate for the next few weeks. It would involve a coulpe of 5L water bottles, some smaller 1L bottles, a pump, some tubing and 2 timers, one weekly, one 24 hour. I think they'd be ok with 1-1.5L of water every 2 days if left under the HPS. They'd go a month without food though.
What do you guys think of those sticks you put in the soil that automatically feed houseplants over a few weeks for use with herb crops?

Well it's about time for a little update. I'd hold out till I've installed the irrigation system on the weekend to ask your opinions but I like keeping this thing recent so I'll do that too.
Not much change in my wardrobe. I had to shift them around cause watering and feeding was a bit tricky with the orientation of the screen.
The little tray that you see is a few clones I've attempted to start. I'm expecting a fail on the cloning, tried it with the last grow to no avail. I think my rooting hormone is the cause. Using jiffy pellets to try get them started. Just got the propagator in the hardware a little while ago. Cuts were taken from the bottom two branches of each, so there's six hopefuls.
