Preflower density during Veg
    #322906 - 11/29/09 08:46 AM (14 years, 11 months ago)

So, I wasn't really sure what to title this thread, cause I've got a weird question.

So, I've got 3 bagseed vegging 24/0 under about 90w of CFL
They're about a month old.

One of them, the largest, is a definite male.

He's starting to really produce some clusters on the top 3-4 nodes...

I'm basically wondering if this is common for preflowers or if I could have possibly come across an autoflowering bagseed?

I'll try to get a pic if you guys tell me you'd be extremely surprised to see full on ball-clusters on 24/0...

Thanks and good grows.

I don't have any experience with autoflowering strains but I can say that I've never seen a full cluster of male OR female  preflowers on any of my plants at 4 weeks. I will typically see a couple of preflowers with the pistils showing if it's female but they are sporatic and only 1 per node. So yeah, you might have stumbled upon something.  Might want to leave the male in there and grow out some of the seeds that will be produced and see if it's consistent.

Yeah, I was thinking it was fairly notable to see preflowers at ALL at 4 weeks, no 12/12 lighting... What is a common flowering time for autoflowers?

I guess I'll have to get some pics, but I'm still curious what some of the old hands have to say about it...

From what your saying it sounds like a autoflower. You'll know for sure in about a week.

Well here's a pic... yeah it sucks but I think the balls are clear enough.

Also kinda weird considering there's still not a single alternating node....

That would be pretty crazy to get an autoflower from bagseed right?
Too bad it's a male... or is it?  What kind of percentages autoflower could I expect from a cross?

This is an autoflowering male imho.

Most autoflowers trigger 17-35 days, males typically trigger a little bit ahead of the females, 3 days to a week.

Okay.. so now I've got a female for sure...

I guess I can ask my actual question again now.

How many calyxs will develop on a vegging female?  Just one per node or whatever? And then do they actually sprout their pistils pre-flower?

My girl has overnight produced at least two per node, top 3 nodes or so, with full "hairs" at least the same length as the stipules....

Looks like I could have two autoflowering plants?
Could actually be pretty cool... I can definitely see myself seeding these...

That is very normal for a female plant.  I really don't think you have a auto-flowering strain.

Thanks for the response...

I'd just like to reiterate  that this female has definitely been on 24/0 lighting her entire life.... Verdict still stand?  Sorry, just making sure...  You never see pics of preflower unless it's some guy with the tinyest of sex organ looking to make a call as early as possible...

I guess my next question is; Can the male pollinate her even if she's in veg?  And then, what kind of percentage autoflower could I expect from their F2?  Is it the extremely dominant trait that I'm daydreaming it is?

Verdict stands, it is very normal to get hairs coming out before they are actually flowering.  I'm not sure about them being able to get pollinated while in pre-flower.

As far as the seeds being auto flower, no.  If they are not autoflower strains then they aren't going to produce auto-flower kids.

Hey man... I appreciate your response and hate to second guess you, but....

You did notice we think the male is autoflower right?
So if only one parent is autoflower, no AF seeds?
Or do you not think the male is AF either?

Anyway, yeah man I just got off work and I'm like falling asleep at the computer, so I could just be being retarded... Many thanks for takin the time still...

I've been growing a number of years.Never really been good at it till I found this place but in all those years the only plant that flowered under 24/0 has been auto flowers.

For whats its worth.

Some will and some won't. The time the autoflower kicks in is gonna be all over the place also depending on how much they take after daddy so to say.

Like when a black dude and a white chick have kids some are white, some black and then there is that group that are in between. :happyweed:

So I was talking to a an old-time grower buddy of mine, and he said that males will often fully flower under any light timing... is this true?

I've also read it a couple places now as well... just hoping to clear this one up.....

No, unless it's a auto flowering strain the triggers for flowering are exactly the same.
