Getting back to the basics.
    #319866 - 11/22/09 11:47 AM (15 years, 30 days ago)

Going back over my first guitar lesson book I ever got.

:hairmetal: Oh and I have a joint or three to help me through the parts that are to EZ.

Anyone else here ever go over old lesson books you have?

(How many of you fuckers even plays guitar?)

I play pretty well. I took lessons for about 3 months then decided I could learn better on my own. I was right. I'm self taught.

Most guitarists are, I mainly only had problems because I cant read music. I just cannot do it.

I switched to tabs and went WTF why do people use notes?

I'm not all that good though, i actually consider myself god awful. At least I can play though so much fun to just play on your own and look for things that sound good.

I go over things every now and then.  I also take lessons/play with a jazz guitarist which helps extremely with learning music theory.  IMO it's really difficult for most people to learn theory on their own and while it's not necessary to play well it helps lots with understanding how music works.  There's lots I teach myself as well.

I would say I'm a decent player for playing the time I have, you can check out my playing in the riffer madness thread.  I've also posted some blues jams I've recorded.

you know what i did in english class? I came to class stoned out of my mind every day, i chugged vodka in the back of class, i put dead fish in the ceiling tiles. i put a gallon of old milk and orange juice in the file cabinet before winter vacation. i brought snakes in a tied up sweater and let them loose during class. i didnt go to school to learn, i went because i had to. i didnt care, and i didn't fucking listen to that stupid bitch. and i still don't fucking care. i tore the pages out of her books and burned them, and threw away all the books in the class, two books per day.  :twobooks:

i go over old books sometimes. ive been playing for about 11 years or so. be careful learning tabs though, because a lot of them are wrong. i would say develop your ears and find your own style. just play man...

yes I also agree with proceeding with caution when using tabs.  That or use programs like powertab or guitarpro so you can actually hear the tabs and play along.  I highly recommend guitarpro as you can add other instrument tracks so you can effectively find a tab and mute the guitar track so you can play along.

I meant like published tabs. I go over songs and just incorporate things of my own. I'm actually pretty ok at slide guitar and like to try to add in some sliding  in. I have to go though, my friend has some boomers. Jam night!

I use guitar pro btw

Well for one  on that. I just am not that serious about guitar. I just want to learn what I can, set new goals whenever an old one gets finished and see where it takes me. I might focus more on my guitar playing this summer though after I get my GPA up. Last spring I just failed all my classes other that Debate, Forensics, Theatre, and Lifetime fitness. So come spring time I have to re take that semester because that takes the old grades off of my GPA.

On the up side I've gotten the top scores in chem class the past 2 months in tests. I love how stupid some of the community college athletes are.
