WHY does fox farm happy frog have a ph of 4.8 rite out of the bag!
    #299483 - 10/17/09 10:34 PM (15 years, 1 month ago)

I ran some 6.8 water through the plant cause it was time to water and the drainage reads 4.8!!!

and ppm 1700

WHY does it come so low.

NO WONDER WHY MY OTHER PLANTS PH IS SO LOW!

I think you need to smoke a joint and relax.  Secondly, reading soil runoff is a pretty poor way of testing PH.

I apparently need to say this again for you budmanman

you CAN NOT measure the ppm of soil, because it's a SOLID.

are you even listening to yourself? he doesn't say that it's going to yield low numbers, he's saying it's a poor method of testing pH. as in, there are better methods that will give you more accurate results.

so to answer your question; it reads 6.8 because there is that specific quantity of H+ ions in the runoff solution, that doesn't mean that's the same quantity as what's in the soil, it's just the quantity that happened to get flushed out when you watered.

you're seriously blowing my mind today man

YOU CAN NOT ARGUE WITH THE RESULTS..

The plants look healthier even within HOURS of being in the ocean forest.

Drooping top leafs from Happy frog

in the ocean are firm and none droopy.

Some lower leafs are drooping from man handling during the rinse but that's fine.

THE RESULTS ARE IN!

So are you suggesting that I use those crummy 15 dollar soil ph readers that you stick into the dirt.

And that every post about them on this site says they are junk.

But what ever the run off is is the same as the liquid in the soil.

Which is what the plants sit in.....

And that liquid in the soil ph was 4.8.

I mean you guys suggested that the ph was indeed low and that I should use lime.

now are you really going to say that the ph was fine all along really?

Even though the other soil run off matches what the ph should be????

The better way is by dissolving your soil in a solution of PH netural liquid, and then testing that.

This isn't true, especially in the case where you've dumped about 80 gallons of water through your pots each with a varying degree of PH up in it.  If you've saturated your soil that much everything is just sluicing through, you're also washing out anything that you previously did.

agreed, also certain cation exchange sites within the soil (read, the exterior of ALL clays, including vermiculite) will hold onto H+ and OH- very very strongly so that the water you're running through it will NOT wash it off, no matter how much water you run through it. you need to let the soil basically dry out, and then run some pH up or down through it to catalyze with the various substances in the soil

well they are in ocean forest now which is suppose to be a HOT soil.

So after transplanting I did plain water.

But since the plants are quite old,

should I feed them next watering?

or should i do plain water again to allow more time for the root zone to develop before feeding.

FF/OF is good for 2 or 3 week before needing nutes. Nutes added before then could and most likely would burn the plant.

Meters suck plain and simple. Your going way overboard. Just be sure the ph of the nutrient is good and you will be fine or you can keep trying futile efforts to keep the ph at the exact same level in soil. Now I do like your results but as you like to say "THE RESULTS CAN NOT BE DENIED!!! "

By the way the stuff used to adj the ph plants fucking hate so give it up bud cause it's not gonna happen. Your never gonna get the ph of the soil dialed in cause ph of soil will change as it dries or as the plants use the nutrients. Water goes down faster ph goes down. Nutrients get used faster ph goes up. You can't do shit to stop this so stop trying.

Try and keep the soil in a tolerated zone. 5.5 to 6.7 wouldn't be all that bad a zone. If your looking for total control the get rid of the soil and go hydro. Only way your gonna do it period. :happyweed:
