It's called "foliar feeding," and it's tricky business from what I understand. A little goes a long way, which is why many growers avoid it. Plants can absorb water through their leaves through openings called "stomata." If the water has nutrient solutes, these nutrients would enter the plant's system more quickly than through the roots; effects from foliar feeding are usually very quickly apparent, which is good if you apply the right amount, but not so great if you apply too much.
Search around, there's more info than my off-the-cuff ramblings.

World- you should not foliar feed until you are more experienced at growing. Your plants will get all necessary nutrition via the roots.

We have dust up the ass up here in the mountains. Wife is always dusting and bitching about it.
Foliar feeding flowering plants is never recommended. That would sure leave a lovely taste to the buds or make for a very easy start to a large mold farm.

just a standard furnace filter. they're flat, so they're easy to install over a square or circle intake or whatever.

Nah, the little screans on the tents do fine. I find (and this is just me) it limits the air more then I like and need to be cleaned to often.
