Anyone know how co-ops work?

Recently I contacted a local co-op about my oyster mushrooms, I'm trying to get a small business going. I sent them an E-mail and got this in response:
I am the produce department manager here at __________ Cooperative. I would be curious to taste a sample of your product as well as get a feel for what you would like to charge. I would also need to talk with you about the availability and consistency of your supply. I have some paperwork I give to all local growers so you will need to fill that out as well. Please contact me via email or phone and we can set up an appointment and discuss these topics.
Do I get paid in cash, or do I not get paid? Someone help me I have no idea how co-ops work.

You need to figure out what their demand is after he tries one of them. You should invite him over for dinner or something. Strike up a good natured relationship with him/her. Relationships are everything in da business yo! be sure to knock his socks off with the way you prepare the shrooms for him.

Hopefully you get paid in cash.
Regardless, it sounds like you got a nice opportunity in front of you.

No lol I mean co-ops sometimes pay you in "goods" instead of money. I dont care if its a check or cash or what not but I need money, not items.

Got this e-mail today,
I would be happy to tell you about our cooperative. Cooperatives are member owned, and to become a member owner you need to invest $100. The fee is one-time and is good for life. The money is refundable if you decide you do not want to be a member some day. Being a member means you are eligible to run for the board of directors and to vote for board members. We have member appreciation sales 4 times a year and on those days you can get a 5,10 or 15 percent discount on your purchases depending on how much you spend. The more you spend, the higher the percentage of savings. Members are also eligible to receive a patronage dividend. This means we track your purchases for the year and compare that to any profit we make. In profitable years, the board can decide to give a percentage of the profits back to the members based on how much the members shop at the coop. The more you shop, the bigger your patronage dividend will be. The board can also decide to withhold a patronage and instead use the money to invest back in the cooperative,. The board did just that this year because we recently expanded into a larger location. We used that money to help finance the expansion. Being a member also entitles you to special member-only sales and member only coupon books.
There are also some indirect benefits of supporting the coop as a member owner. Wheatsfield supports a variety of local charitable and community oriented organizations. We also try very hard to foster local agricultural development by purchasing as much locally produced food as we can. In just the produce department alone I buy from over a dozen local vendors. The rest of the store stocks locally produced cheese, meat, milk, eggs, grains and snacks. Being a member means you are helping to support the other 2,000 members of the Wheatsfield community and the dozens of local vendors we do business with.
That is the cooperative in a nutshell. Please let me know if there are any other questions I can answer for you.

You know a lot of the produce that I grow goes to clubs and co-ops. You know the ones I walk away from. The ones that want me to fill out paper work about my growing.

If he DEA finds paper work in a club saying your a grower your door is gonna go down as fast as some large commercial grow. Cause until they get there they don't know your not a commercial grow.

lol I dont need a license if I'm growing under 100,000 lbs a year. As long as I dont cut the stems or cook them I'm good. If I do cut the stems or do anything other than wash them I would be considered a kitchen and would need special licensure. But otherwise its basically like selling at a farmers market. The only real "license" I need would be $1,000,000 in insurance which doesnt cost very much at all. Thats what the USDA and my local department of health said .
