Sour Diesel UPDATED Grow Aborted 2-1-10
    #279709 - 09/13/09 06:51 PM (15 years, 2 months ago)

So, after a long year and 1/2 hiatus of growing ANYthing my lamps have officially been lit once more.  Too early to be speaking of anything right now as 98% of the seeds im using are almost 4 years old (gifts from a friend i never got around to growing) with the last 2% being some seeds i pulled out of a bag.

Just popped the seeds into some peat pellets, setup a small closet in my spare bedroom with a t-12 fluro, and stuck the pellets into a small mini greenhouse to pop the seeds.

Here's the cast of characters appearing in my closet:

NYC Diesel from soma seeds
Afghani dream (emery seedbank, breeder unknown to me)
Flo (emery seedbank, breeder unknown to me)
Sour Diesel (from a bag of super dank Sour D, breeder unknown to me)

I'm praying the afghani and the NYC are still viable.  Not too interested in the flo, but I might as well use them to see if i can get anything.  The flo seeds looked pathetic. They were crazy small and left me wondering why they were sold in the first place.  I've grown the NYCD from this seed pack before, but that was about 3 years ago so I'm hoping they're still good.  Yields were a bit small but the potency was awesome.

The Sour D was some fucking amazing smoke, shouldn't be any problems in popping the seeds.  Only problem comes from the fact that I only have two of them so I hope at least one turns out to be a lady.

Any who, i'll get a growlog going as soon as I figure out if the genetics are any good or not.  If anything I have a good back up with some cuttings of the cherry slyder i grew during my last run.

It feels good to be back!

Coda, holy shit, you've got some Flo?
That's a DJ Short strain.  The breeder who originated Blueberry, Grape Krush, F13 and more.
He recently posted at another site stating that the plants used to create Flo had died, and that it is no longer going to be available.  I don't know if you do any breeding, but if you get a male I highly recommend making F2's.
Don't be put off by the size of the seeds either, C99 seeds are extremely small but the following of that plant is mythic.
Also, Flo is a predominantly sativa plant, and almost all of DJ's genetics have weird mutant tendencies, but the smoke is purported to be fantastic...there is one pheno that is very Indica leaning, and I believe that DJ actually did a breeding program to stabilize the indica leaning Flo, calling it Flodica, people rave about that one too.
Good luck with these, its like you found a shitty painting that you hated in your attic, only to discover its a Picasso.
I'll be watching for the grow log.

well, we'll see how it turns out.  The flo seeds are really old and I have some severe doubts as to their viability.  However, if they do pop I'll do my best to bring em up right.  Who knows, if it works out i may be able to release some F2's to some lucky people.  Gotta find room for a breeding area if that's gonna happen though.

Also, like i mentioned before, these seeds were given to me from a friend who had purchased them from Emery's shop before it was shut down.  So I can't even comment as to whether they are truly DJ Shorts genetics or not(hence why i wrote breeder unknown).

I would kill to grow some flo, I just can't justify the massive price on them... DJ Short is one of my favorite breeders by far and of all his gear, flo is the one I would most like, but what can I say, I'm a sucker for a good sativa. Definitely let us know how it turns out.

will do, turns out my friend with the cherry slyder has a 5 pack of some Flo as well.  But these seeds are only a year old so I know they'll pop.  Told him to hold on to them until i figured out how many plants I was going to end up with.

Are these seeds still lingering around? I want to get some and try some breeding with it see what I come out with...But I'm not experienced in breeding...I'm pretty sure I could make this plant work. From what I hear its fairly stable...True?

Couldn't tell you firsthand as i've never grown it.  There's a lot of grow logs on the net for you to look at and I see that hempdepot is carrying short's flo.  Can't vouch for the validity of their business so don't hold me to it, however it is listed.

well, 2/2 of the sour diesel seeds have popped with one pushing its way to the surface.  Everything else, as i pretty much imagined, is dead.  I'm not holding out any hope for the other seeds but i'll keep them around for a few more days and see if anything changes.

At least i can call my buddy up and pick up a few of those flo seeds.

peat pellets were always the easiest for me.  Hydrate, plant, light, transplant.  Can't beat that, plus they're dirt cheap and don't require any PH balancing.

Visited the new hydro shop that opened up a 1/2 hr north of me.  Nice people for sure, good location, good inventory, shall be going there a lot more often.  Picked up a bag of ocean forest and transplanted the two sprouts into some small pots (1/2 gal i think).  One of the sprouts already had it's taproot poking out the side, the other baby got hung up on some compacted peat.  Had to poke around a little bit to free up the seed husk and let it stretch up.  Hopefully it'll poke up like the other one by tomorrow.

Hydro shops are great.  I can spend hours in the ones around these parts.  Good people and good products.  Just a bit overpriced.  But I can really justify the price by the ease of the transactions plus supporting the local economy is important to me.  Good luck!

yup, the people who own this shop seem like decent folk.  Plus i'll pay a little extra for added security and accessibility.  Found a good hookup for nutrients though, so at least i won't be paying out the ass for tiny bottles.  Just need soil, maybe some equipment, and big bags of perlite.

Small update:

Just checked the sprouts this morning.  The little bit of help i gave to the stuck one was perfect.  Popped right out of the pellet and is now reaching for the light.  Another day and the cotes will spread open and I'll be on my merry way to sexing and bushing them out for clones.

Buddy said he would stop by on sunday to drop off a few flo seeds so I'll be prepping them next week.

Sprouts are going well, I'll take some pics of them tomorrow.  I think im gonna hold a contest on sexing them.  I believe that i will end up with one male and one female, but that's just a ballpark guess (im hoping for two girls).  It's been my experience that the plants which grow quicker tend to become males in the end and one sprout is definitely outdoing the other.

Heading over to my boy's place tonight to pick up my first sack in the past two weeks as well as a few of those flo seeds.  I'll put them in peat pellets tomorrow and add them to this log.

Those are the sour d seeds right there.  First closeup is of the plant on the right in the first pic, second the one on the left.  The two flo seeds I planted have popped and are pushing up.  Should be by at the most tomorrow night before they push all the way up.  Then off to soil and up with the others for a month til I can sex them.

What soil are you using?  And what nute cocktail?

I'm curious, and yet it will probably mean nothing to me since I don't use premix soils or bottled nutes...I just always want to know what other people use!

Soil is Ocean Forest from Fox Farm.  No nutes yet, will pick up a bottle of grow big for veg and probably the flora nova series for flowering + gravity and maybe some sweet/carbo load.

One of the flo sprouts has a mutated seed leaf.  Like like there's three leaves on it, kinda tiny, but I'll do my best to get a pic up if i can.  Definitely need to get myself a fan in there, just had to wait til i got paid today to do so.  So, that's the next edition to the closet.  I hate it when they're this young, feels like it takes forever til they start getting big lol.

Sour D #1

Sour D #2

Flo #1

Flo #2

Sour D seeds have been vegging for 16 days and the flo seeds for about 8 or so.  Going a little slow, but I have patience so it's no big deal.  I'll be picking up a bottle of some veg nutes next weekend and will start to feed the Sour D seedlings small doses for a little bit.

Flo seedlings are doing ok, one of them looks like it's having a rougher time then the other with the soil.  No burn yet, but it doesn't seem as happy.  Hopefully it'll bounce back with no problems.

Flo

Sour D

Flo

Flo

Sour D

Sour D

and finally one of my dog Java for good measure, seeing as she can't keep her nose out of shots

Small Update:

It's been 31 days total since I've started, around 24 days for the Flo since they started a week later then the Sour D.  Overall I'm really liking the Flo, grew up nice and sturdy so far and is chugging along nicely.  Took a little burn in the beginning, but it didn't really affect it too badly.  They've had three feedings so far, one full strength one tonight, two 1/2 strength feedings over the previous week or so.

I over watered one of the Sour D's, ironically it's also the one that I think is now suffering from a bit of N overload. If you look at pic 6 you can see the one of the left is definitely a lot darker green then the right one.  We'll see what happens, I'm sure it will be fine and next couple of waterings will just be plain til she evens out.

No sex yet, although im hoping the Sour D on the right is a girl because the branching on her is great.  Make a damn good mom if it keeps up.  Other then that, not much else to see.  Hopefully I'll get a sex for them in a week or so and I can move on to cloning and getting ready for flowering.

Just a quick update.  I LST'ed them a few days ago, added in a T-5 strip light and stuck the t-12 as a supplemental side light.  Will probably be adding in at least one more of those T-5's because they're really compact and light.  With some inventive drilling and connecting I could string together the T-5's pretty easily into a nice bank.

Anyways you can see how I tied them down (went a little extreme for their first bend, but they're doing fine).  I really wish all of my plants were branching like that one SD is, so far that plant is the only one to start branching out really nice.  I'm crossing my fingers she really does turn out to be female.

Lastly you can see the little bugger who decided to sneak into my room and chomp on some of the fans while I was working with the T-5 and re-arranging my closet a bit.  Clipped off a dying fan leaf that was blocking light and gave it to her today, she didn't mind one bit.  Seconds after that photo was taken that leaf was decimated by her

Coming along nicely.  I've never done LST before, but I'm assuming you let them stretch out like that so you can work them around like that?  I would imagine it's a pain with tightly spaced internodes.

My cat has a thing for weed too.  Loves to get high and if you leave weed out he will eat it.  My last grow he ate half of one of my plants when I wasn't paying attention.

that was my thinking, although it's not really required for the process.  But i was hoping the extra node space would give more chances for light to reach through.

Would have happened anyways even if i wasn't LST'ing them as I only had access to one shop light.  They stretched like crazy when they were seedlings.

Thanks, I'm crossing my fingers for all girls, but I'd be happy with 2/4.  Think it's time for a transplant, may explain the lackluster growth these past few weeks.  They've been sitting in those pots for 30+ days now and they're pretty tiny.

preflowers are starting to come in on the plants, won't be too long before I know the sex now.  I also transplanted them on saturday, trained one Sour d on saturday and one Flo today.  The T-5's I put in have been kicking ass, no more stretch now, at least not as much as before.  Nodes are coming in and staying nice and tight next to each other.

First pic is the two Sour D plants.

Second is a close up of the branching on the plant on the left.

Third is a close up of the nodes from the same plant in pic 2.  I'm almost positive this one is a male but I'll let the preflowers grow in a bit further before I do anything.

Fourth is the two Flo's.  I forgot to mention I had done some pruning on these girls.  They had a lot of dying leaves from a touch of nute burn.  They were blocking light so I removed them.  Plenty of healthy green on top and the lower nodes love the extra light.

Fifth and Sixth are close ups of the branching from the plant on the left

Seventh is a closeup of the training spot and a shot of the node spacing.

Eighth is the branching from the plant on the right

Last is group shot

T-5's are doing me a world of good.  I'll be picking up my flowering cabinet hopefully by next weekend, but definitely by next week.  Came across some autoflower seeds that I'm going to use to test out the new grow area   This way when I move on to the bigger stuff I'll have all the kinks worked out.  Been wanting to try an autoflower for a while anyways so it should be a fun grow.

DJ strains are known for being nute sensitive, take it easy on those girls with your feeding schedule.

yah, it took some research but that was the general consensus (at least with my research on the Flo strain in particular).  FF:OF can be a bit hot, believe it or not the nute burn came from the soil itself.  They had suffered from that long before I added in anything by hand.

The plants have had a total of 4 feedings, 2 1/2 strength (.5 tsp/gal) 2 full (1 tsp/gal).  After that they won't be getting any more, one of the Sour D plants looks like it's getting too much N, not burning, but definitely an overload.  The other looks fine, the two Flo's responded OK to the feedings but I'm noticing some damage now that's most likely a result from the feedings.  So plain water for a few weeks, or until they tell me they need some food, and I should be ok.  Once I get them sexed I'll probably veg them for another month, then take some clones and get to flowering by late December early January.  In the meantime i've got those ak X Diesel auto's to try out.  If i plant by this weekend I'll be harvesting by the time I put the clones in for flower.

Damn skippy, if for some reason I pull all males with these plants, I have a backup pack of some troublemaker to try out as well.  Either way that will end up in my cabinet at some point in the next year for sure.

New strains are awesome, but I plan on focusing on what I've got for a while.  I've never had the luxury of doing that up until now.

Quick update, one confirmed female.  First girl is a Sour Diesel plant.  The other Sour D and the only Flo to have shown preflowers still haven't matured enough for me to tell, which is kinda odd.  However, the plant that showed its sex today is also the only plant to display alternating nodes so she's definitely mature.  The other plants are still pumping out evenly spaced nodes.  One Flow doesn't even have preflowers, I'm thinking she got stalled out at some point and took a bit to recover because she's way behind the others.

Oh well, patience is a game I'm well used to playing.  I'm going to lowes tonight to see if they have my cabinet in store.  If they do, I'm bringing it home and setting up the flowering cab this weekend.  If not, I'll order it, start some auto flower seeds, and build it when it arrives.

Bought my flowering cabinet today, goddamn that fucker is heavy.  I'll be setting it up this afternoon.  Bought another t-5 fixture to put in there.  Will be germinating some of those autoflowers tonight to get that going.

Also ordered a quart of the flora nova grow and bloom.  Should be here sometime next week.  I'll be doing the auto's hempy style to practice, from what I've read the flora nova series is awesome for agro.  My goal is to make this grow as simple as possible, follow the less is more philosophy so to speak.  So we'll see how well this nute line does on the autos, if it works as well as I hope it will I'll be in good shape.

Here's the new digs, there's a little work left to be done but there's no need for it at the moment.  Those are the AK x Diesel seeds underneath the T-5, they were planted on Saturday.I'm thinking about upgrading the cool tube I have to the longer one the hydro store has, price is a bit steep for me at the moment though.  So that may have to wait until the next run.

Anyways, there she is: 4 ft wide, 2 ft deep, 5.8 ft tall.  Enough room to cram 4 3 gallon pots inside.  I'm going to have to think about intake placement because it's going to be really tight on space in there.  Don't know what I'll do about that yet, but I'm sure something will come to me.

Day 54
1.) Group shot
2-4.) Female Sour D
Rest.) Sickly Flo

Quote:

I can't wait to see the Sour Diesel.

Neither can I.

I'm dead convinced that one sour diesel and one flo are males.  I see preflowers, but no pistils.  Yet, the preflowers aren't raising onto a small stalk like they normally do for males.  So I'm just waiting it out.  At least I have one female, so this run isn't a total bust.  The other Flo seems to have stalled hard, no branching what so ever and definitely no preflowers.  I'm not sure if they're suffering from a nute overload from the soil, a PH imbalance, or what.  Still working on it, I'm sure I'll figure it out soon.

I trained the other sour d tonight again, this time i pulled down some of the secondaries as well as the main stalk.  She looks like she's getting too much N.  Not much I can do, I stopped feeding them anything but plain water for a few weeks now.  Even with that problem she's growing nice and strong and will be ready for cloning in another week or so.

Looking great as I would suspect from you Coda!

I have some questions.

What soil mix are you using?

What lights?

How old are they and what light schedule?

I'm sorry I didn't catch up with the beginning of the thread.

Keep it up!  At least you have one confirmed female!  That's why I started 20 plants right now so I can get at least 7 or 8 females and then I'll pick the worst 3 and toss em...

Fox Farm Ocean Forest straight from the bag.  Will be going hempy for flowering.

What lights?

Started with a T-12, then added in a T-5 as the main source.  I'll be moving my other T-5 in once the 600 watt HPS gets setup.

54 days from the time they popped through the surface for the sour diesel and about 48 for the Flo.

Quote:

That's why I started 20 plants

unfortunately to begin this grow I only had 4 seeds to use.  4 of the auto flowers I planted over the wkd out of ten just sprouted.  I planted 5 more seeds in peat pellets and threw one in a shot glass of water tonight.  So I'll have those to play around with while I prepare for the big grow.

Took one clone from each plant today, the plan is to root the clones and flower them to finally determine sex.  I'm sick of waiting for the preflowers to become more defined.  As soon as the auto flowers I have begin their budding cycle, I'll flower the clone too.

Small update.

Ok, well the verdict is in finally.  I have one female and three males.  So it looks like flo is not going to be on my tasting list this time around.  I plan on taking about 7 more cuttings of my one girl tonight and I'm going to do a mini SOG as a test run.  So this run will have at best 8 Sour D plants and 5 AK x Diesel auto flowers.

yah, but these aren't soil, they're peat pellets which is a soiless medium (no nutrition in the substrate).  You can clone in soil if you want, I prefer the pellets because they're easy to use and cheap.

whats your process for cloning with the peat pellets....i.e. lighting, rooting hormone, humidity and what not?

1.) Clip clone from plant
2.) Cut stem at bottom at 45 degree angle
3.) Dip in rooting hormone (i prefer rootech but used Clonex this time)
4.) Stick cutting in peat pellet and place in a small tray with a humidity dome.  I use a T-5 lamp for lighting.
5.) Fan out and mist the humidity dome and cuttings at least twice a day if not more
6.) Cuttings usually take between 1-2 weeks til they have roots out the side

Speaking of clones, both of the flo clones have rooted firmly in the peat pellets, but no roots out the side.  So that's 9 days for the flos, too bad they're males lol.  One sour d has root nubs coming from the stem, again the male.  The only girl cutting from that group has no root nubs.  The bottom stem has swollen from the rooting gel, but no roots.

I took a bunch of other cuttings from the female about 5 days ago.  I plan on giving a few to my friend who gave me the flo seeds and I'll flower the rest.  Hopefully the auto flowers hurry up and grow because I don't want to veg the sour d clones too long lol.

Pic 1: Plant on the right is Flo Clone from plant #1, middle is Flo Clone from plant #2, left is Sour D male clone

Pic 2: Tray of sour D girl clones waiting to root

Pic 3: Mother plants sour d male far right, sour d girl middle, flos on the left

Kind of funny that the only clones to have taken full root is the male clones lol.  I did find root nubs on one sour D clone today so she just takes a while i guess.  The first clone I clipped from the sour D girl is most likely not going to make it, stem swelled and looked good but no roots.  So now she's just dying on the vine so to speak.  The clones with the toothpicks in them are taken one week after the others, I took a bunch because the one girl was refusing to root so I wanted to have as many as I could to produce SOMEthing, hopefully the rest will follow suit of the one with root nubs.  When I get a few spare bucks I'll be be building a mini cloner.  I'm hoping it will speed up rooting times a bit with this particular plant as she seems very resistant to cloning.

Other then that not much else is going on with this grow, mother plants are chugging away just fine.  I'll be flowering the "male" clones to get 100% verification (although I already know their males I rooted them so wtf, might as well make sure).  Kinda pointless, but I'm bored and kind of curious to see how long it will take to see some flowers once i flip the lights on them.  So hopefully I'll have roots on at least 5 clones by the end of the week so I can finally get them into solo cups and ready for flowering.

Been a while since I updated this thread.  This plant is a bitch to clone.  I gave away the couple of clones I did root to the friend who gave me the flo seeds.  I have more rooted which I'm planning to flower in another week or so.  I don't know why this plant is so resistant to cloning, but everything I've tried still produces the same result.  So far it takes 2+ weeks to see roots out the side of the peat pellet.

Anyways, I'll get some pics up soon.  The clones I do have look pretty pathetic, but they've bounced back really well and I think another week of veg will do them good before I flip the lights on them.

Here's some new pics for this thread.  Just gave the Sour D mom a bit of a hair cut this morning.  Didn't keep any for cones, just wanted to thin out the canopy a bit and let some of the branches harden up quicker.  Cut down a lot of spaghetti stem branches that had stretched up to reach light. That pile of leaves and stalks is what I trimmed out.  Mistakenly cut down a good branch, but no biggie got plenty more to choose from.

The plant in the solo cup is the remaining clone I have.  Gave the other two rooted ones to a friend of mine.  Have a bunch more in the cloning chamber.  Switched the way I do clones up a bit.  Bought a new humidity dome and laid down some perlite.  I think the smaller dome I had wasn't working well enough, and the peat pellets were drying out before the plant generated roots.  So I bought a much sturdier dome and added the perlite for more humidity and moisture for the peat.  3 days after I put the dome on one of the newer clippings has roots coming out.  I'll put that one in a solo cup tonight.

I'll probably end up giving the rest of those clones away, I really only have room for 6 plants in my flowering cab and right now it's full.  I will be placing one clone in there though sometime within the next week.  This will give me a month of "practice" with the strain and hopefully I'll be able to figure out a good feeding schedule and how sensitive it is to nutes.  Looking forward to finally flowering her as the bag the seed came from was just awesome.  Hopefully I can do as well with it

Tonight marks day 1 of a Sour D clone going into 12/12.  The clone in the pic above went into a bigger hempy pot, was watered with 1 tsp per gal of FN Grow, and stuck under the HPS.  It's root system was pretty tiny so it will be interesting to see how quickly it adapts to the HPS.  Hopefully without much stress, I'll add in a B1 supplement next watering.

Anyways, I'll update in a couple of days with pics to show how the stretch is going.  My cabinet is now officially stuffed to the gills.  Looks like 8 of these red buckets is the most it can hold.

Welp, gave all of my other babies away today to a better home.  If they didn't go with my friend their next home would have been my garbage disposal.

I'm not 100% sure on why I was having such a difficult time cloning them.  But I altered my setup in a few minor ways and within 5 days all 12 clones had roots out the sides.

So, to anyone that may have some difficulty with their cloning this is what I did.

1.) Replaced the jiffy lid, which was a rectangle shape and only 2 inches tall, with a much taller, dome shaped, lid.  This lid also had some "dials" on the top to let in fresh air which can come in handy.

2.) Added in a seedling mat.  Actually, I had done this a while ago once I noticed the peat pellets were freezing to the touch.

3.) Added in soaked perlite to the clone tray.  After I added in the heat mat I noticed my peat pellets were drying out really quickly.  The soaked perlite along with the mat provided a nice moist, warm, area for the pellets to sit on and kept my dome nice and humid with no additional misting needed.

I really think it's a combined factor of the above three steps as to why my clones took 2+ weeks to even show root nubs.  First, I believe the short rectangle lid did not allow enough air and humidity to the plants.  I noticed the water formed pools up at the top.  When I switched to the taller dome, I noticed the mist was a much finer type of droplet that "fogged" the tray.

Obviously if your root zone is freezing you'll have trouble.  But, if your root zone is too hot your substrate won't hold moisture and you'll have problems too.  So, the perlite definitely helped me in this area and also made maintenance not an issue.  I could leave the clones be for days without having to do anything.  Plus it's cheap, reusable, and easy to setup.  My whole cloning setup cost me 30 bucks with most of the cost coming in from the heating mat (24$).  I use peat pellets to clone which are dirt cheap to begin with, cloning gel for the hormone, snip and dip then in the pellets in the dome for a week.  Can't beat the cost effectiveness and simplicity of it, I'm thankful I was able to solve my issue as this marks the first time I've ever had any serious problems cloning.

Day 10, things are going well with this one.  Stems are hardening up, buds are just starting to form, no complaints here.  Growing and stretching pretty quickly too.  Calyxes are kinda odd, really tiny with very thin stigmas.  Going to be a very light yield from these girls I think, but only time will tell.  If the quality comes close to what I got from the bag, then I'll definitely be happy no matter what I end up with.

The clipping may have come from a topped branch, I did remove a small tip that was gnarly looking so the others would grow up a bit stronger.

Day 23 of flowering

Here's a couple pics of my sour d plant in the flowering cab.  Almost a month into flowering, buds are really small on this one so far, but it looks like a sativa dominant plant so I'm probably looking at a 70-80 day harvest at best.  Trichome formation is going great, I tried to get a good pic of them through the loupe but that was best I could grab.  I have a feeling this is gonna be a nice and frosty plant, but I also think it will be a relatively low yielder.  Only time will tell, I have 6 more sour d clones waiting for roots right now.  Soon as they root they'll hit the veg cab for maybe a week then the flowering cab.  Gotta clear out the ak x diesel before that can happen though.

I was wondering what kind of light do you give those clones?

Do you set flouros just at the top of the dome?

I really like that setup... seems about as good as it gets for soil cloning... I just bought one of those seedling mats. How hot does yours get?  Does it mess with your temps at all?

They are under two banks of two 2 ft T-5 Floro lights when seedlings, clones, or my moms.  Cloned in peat pellets, not soil

Quote:

The flo's actually sit at the max height I want my moms to be (1.5 ft give or take).  I like the taller domes because I think it gives them more room to "breathe" and more room for humidity to build up in.

The seedling mat doesn't generate much heat.  I can place my hand a few inches away and not feel any radiant heat from the mat.  I also never really tested the temps of the root zone, I wouldn't imagine the chamber the clones are in gets above 80 F.  As far as I can tell the seedling mat has not bothered any of the other plants in veg.

Awesome reply man, thanks!

I was at the hydro store a couple hours ago lookin at all that stuff... man I wish they made half-flat sized domes and trays... my setup's a little cramped..

They don't stretch like crazy at 1.5 feet?

Six more sour d clones, one week or so of veg, transplant into 1 gals, then into 12/12 for them.  Took about 10 days this time to show roots, guess this girl just takes her time in the cloning chamber.  The one in flower shot up pretty tall and was only about 4 inches or so when it hit flowering.  So hopefully these girls will end up around the same height and I'll have a more even canopy.

Day 35 of flowering

Things are going pretty well, she suffered from a little heat damage because I tried moving my lamps down a bit further.  Hopefully the stronger inline fan I'm buying and a better circulatory fan will help solve this problem.  The buds are frosting up great, hopefully they'll start packing on some more weight soon.  I added in snow storm ultra to their feeding schedule.  I have been feeding them three tsp of FN/Gal, but now I think I'm going to drop down to 1 tsp and add in some liquid and dry kool bloom to the mix.  The hydro guys are gonna love me when I come visit them next lol.

Looking good.  You can see some nice frostiness in the second picture.  After using KoolBloom myself, I am a fan of it.  I was using 10-12.5 ml/g of FN Bloom and 10ml/g of liquid KoolBloom for the aggressive bloom cycle.  Seem to make my plants happy.

Well fuck me running....

Opened the cabinet tonight and noticed a bunch of pistils on the top cola had crisped and died.  At first I thought it was from the recent heat stress and that they were still getting too much light.  Then I started noticing the same things on some more shaded buds and the hunt began.  Found a few hermie flowers in the buds and down he/she came.

Now I'm at a cross road.  I have to wonder if it's something I did like a bad light leak, or if the plant was naturally hermie.  I have a bunch of cuttings I was about to flower, but now I'm not sure if I want to.  I have two clones in their right now which I'm using to sex and one more pathetic looking AK x Diesel which is finishing up.  I may wait until I know the sex of the two (soon to be three) clones I have in there.  If I end up with a female I may do a run with them instead.

Decisions, decisions....

Yah, I'm pretty much in agreement with you.  I have the three LA Conf x Skunk plants in veg.  Should just be another week or so until I know the sex of them.  Besides that I have the rest of the attitude "freebies" and a bunch of trouble maker seeds to play with.  It just sucks losing something I've been working on since the end of September.

Oh well, into the pile she goes.  I'll be throwing her into the cannabutter I'll be making.

Hermie's suck I just had to chop three of my ice down due to that, but I still have three lucky ladies, yeah it sucks when it happens but at the same time I am the type of guy that looks at the glass half full rather than half empty so I will be updating my journal here in the next couple of days so you guys can see the weight that is getting put on by the remaining three.

Yah, it just sucks spending so much time on something to have it go to shit on you at the end.  I was really hoping this one would stick as the buds the seed came from were just amazing.  Judging from the looks of the plant when I chopped mine were well on the way to looking just the same.

Oh well, plenty of more things to play with and now I can get rid of the behemoth mom and free up space for more strains.

Pointless Smoke report:

I decided to clip off a full bong pack worth of herb off the plant.  Goddamn, for being so young this shit packs a punch.  Obviously due the maturity its a really strong head high, but for what it is I'm pretty surprised.  I'm really disappointed because this plant was just coated in perfect looking trichomes.  Just packed to the gill, perfectly formed.  It was so resinous that the first taste was of a nice hash, but it was hurt by the harshness of the smoke and the really green aftertaste.  I wasn't expecting anything in terms of flavor or smell, but the hash taste is definitely very nice.  I was going to turn this into butter, but I actually enjoy the buzz so I think I'll just stash it and smoke it instead.

I warned the friend I gave cuttings to that mine went hermie.  He had just flipped the lights on his cuttings when I called him.  I don't know if he decided to keep it and go with it, or cut them down.  Part of me hopes he keeps it so I can see if his hermie as well lol.
