Need some help with what exaust fan to get

So, I have a very small area. Its measurements are 2x2x3. Now, I found a formula that says Cubic feet/3 (3 air exchanges per minute). So my area would be 12 cubic feet. According to that formula, that's only 4 CFM required. Throw on the carbon filter which adds I hear about 20%, so that's a total of about 5 CFM's. Now, that seems COMPLETELY wrong. I'm assuming theres a minimum CFM to pull through a small carbon filter? I'm also assuming I realllly misunderstood something. Can you guys offer me any help here? Thanks a lot

what kind of lights are you running? If a HID you'll need a better fan to keep the area cool. I'm assuming your using either fl or cfl and in that case just about any vent fan that will work with your filter would be good. Get a fan based on what your filter requires. That is the best use of the filtration.

a 150w HPS. Also, I am going to use a small, DIY carbon filter, so I am not quite sure of what CFM that filter will require

CFM is cubic feet per minute, ie a 12 cfm fan would replace all the air in your grow space every minute... for every minute you left it on.
With a space that small, you shouldn't expect to need a powerful fan. A 150 watt HPS will get pretty hot, but a normal shop fan would cancel that out pretty easily.

formula is wrong in order to exchange the air 3 times per min u need 36 cfm... a 4 cfm fan would need 3 mins just to exchange 12 cubic feet once

Alright, so I realize a only need a small fan for exhaust, but how many CFM's should it have when you throw on a small carbon filter?
