Car shopping
    #266232 - 08/16/09 05:41 PM (15 years, 3 months ago)

Im kind of split between whether I want to spend 3000$ and buy something cash and outright own it. meaning i dont have to carry insurance if i dont choose

or

getting something nicer, using like 2k as a down payment and financing. which means i have to carry full coverage insurance

im really eyeballing this BMW X5

http://www.autotrader.com/dealers/inview/detail.jsp?ct=u&car_id=261170674&dealer_id=5982013&car_year=2001&dealership_view_name=25thaveautosales&mis_search_type=both&first_record=101&sort_type=priceASC&address=85281&pager.offset=100&cardist=7475

if not ill be buying some sort of older Jeep Cherokee or a small truck

nope I think ive decided not to get it. I mean it would somewhat work given I live in Arizona. But considering the amount of backpacking and camping I do I think a bigger vehicle would be a bit more practical.

I may still get the bike. I havent decided, my parents have the bike currently so it's not going anywhere

plus i already know how to drive a car, I dont know how to ride a bike yet

Looks like a nice ride! And BMW seems well built, alot of older model beemers out here on da island!

IMO, owning out right is the way to go. Then it's yours, no debt hangin over your head.

Im just worried about something cheaper nickel and diming me to death. I KNOW if I get an older Jeep I will have problems with it. But I guess I dont "need" reliable transportation.

you should be able to find a pretty cherry $3000 car. Something you shouldn't have to work on for a couple years. I have found some nice cars and trucks for a couple grand that needed no more then the standard tire and oil changes.

Why wouldn't you have to have an insurance policy?

if you choose to drive legally.

but no one checks that shit unless you get pulled over. then you still just need to have it before you appear in court

but you cant even drive a financed car off the lot without full coverage

i would continue to look around.  When i buy a car its a long term investment so I wouldn't want something with 112k miles on it, even if it's a bmw.  you could probably get an infiniti g35 with half those miles for that price.

Yeah I wasnt necessary stuck on the BMW, more between whether I want to finance a vehicle or buy something cheaper that may end up costing me a lot in repairs

nobody important - you on IA too?

anyway i say NO to the down payment more expensive car idea. (although i do agree with nobody imp - german engeneering is fucking pretty. audis and bmws are the way to go)

a also say no to an old jeep

thats a problem waiting to happen

and older truck is a much better idea IMO. the right trucks last forever.

If not, then how is a 30 year old considered a pedophile for doing the same thing?
I think y'all need to look up the definition for pedophile.

I bought a new jeep commander about 3 years ago and the only problems i have had with it are the fucking rocks hitting my windshield of the 1-17.  It's been a great truck.

yes they are. I have been reading and ive heard the same of Jeeps with higher mileage as well

im going to start looking for a toyota truck. Plus im getting 4600$ now instead of 5800$ so that fucks my plans up a bit

ive decided to say fuck financing a vehicle. im just going to buy a beater and pay cash.
