looking at trichs

What's the best (read: cheapest) instrument for checking out trichs to see when they're cloudy/ amber? I have a little spotting scope, but it's impossible to see the trichome heads with it since it's so wobbly.... should I just get a big magnifying glass or is there something a little easier to use and cheaper?

Also, does anyone have any suggestions on local places that might sell loupes? I don't really like making purchases on ebay....

Harry...a 10x-15x magnification loup would be fine. A decent magnifying glass would probly even work. I have a 10x loup i got from a friend, works fine. The dublet, is as big as u need as far as number of lenses.
As far as getting them locally. Do you have an optics shop or scientific supplies shop ?

I use a Radioshack "Illuminated Microscope" it's 60-100x and only cost me 10 bucks 5 years ago.
Mine looks a little diff but this is essentially the same one...

Only thing bad about it is that you're going to have to cut a piece of trim off and put it on a table to get a good look. Take one look at trichomes magnified like that and you'll agree it's worth it though.
Edit: Read some of the customer reviews... lol
