Did you know that your brain activity when watching TV is actually lower by far than when you are sitting doing absolutely fuck all. TV is a drug and people don't even know it. I'll agree with the reality TV thing, by my bone is with commericals. They fuck with peoples minds and dumb them down systematically. The news isn't much better, but if I don't stop now I'll just keep going on about all the things I hate about TV endlessly.

I totally agree with you on tv being a drug. I notice that i feel MORE like a lazy ass when i watch tv, compared to when i smoke a blunt and just stare at a wall.
Nothing very productive comes out of watching tv these days. I'd rather stick to staring at the wall

isn't this the truth! I like television just like the next guy, but thats not what my life centers around. During the day, my tv stays off. Daylight hours are time for anything other then tv. My kids, they don't get their playstation till after dark, about an hour before their bed times.
Tv is brainwashing the world!!

According to Bill Hicks, mediocrity and banality within the media and popular culture are oppressive tools of the ruling class, meant to "keep people stupid and apathetic."
It may seem hard to believe at face value, but I implore you to dig deeper. Wake up and look at the world around you.

Internet is far worse for me. I'm so bored of tv at this stage it's no problem to peel myself away from it. Call of Duty 4 can be a different story sometimes. But if I'm not strict with myself I've been known to develop sleeping disorders from the internet. It's just too stimulating. 7am roles around and I wonder what the fuck just happened?

Although self-control is important, my philosophy with the computer is different. I like the internets because you can actually see things you would never see on TV.
Things the elite do not want you to see.

Cmon guys focus on something that matters.
Television? Who gives a fuck. Don't watch the shit.
How about the overpopulation, poverty(ya know, the people who have never seen one of those tvs), and how the overindulgent western lives we live (regardless of whether we watch tv or not) are ruining humans lives all over the planet, many other species lives on the planet and of course the planet itself.
That's what I expected to find when I read this thread. You talk about everyone else as being unintelligent yadda yadda yadda but every post thus far has been a senseless whine about fuckin tv.
The claim that tv is to blame for any real problems could have been said about tv anytime, not just since "reality" tv. You really think those lame shows have any effect whatsoever on the true issues?

well this thread could be taken many different ways the conversation about tv just kept rolling along and eventually ended at that.
i'll have to quote tyler durden on this
Quote:
Tyler Durden said: We're consumers. We are by-products of a lifestyle obsession. Murder, crime, poverty, these things don't concern me. What concerns me are celebrity magazines, television with 500 channels, some guy's name on my underwear. Rogaine, Viagra, Olestra.

Something said many times and will be said many more, "We must be the change we wish to see in the world." Are we going to give this discussion a meaning other than feeling bad about the way we live or depict how some one else lives?
What wouldn't be a disappointment?

I'm not trying to defend television or anything. I know it is nothin but bad vibes. ESPECIALLY commercials. Man when I used to trip and watch tv it would just be one big evil blur. I would get major demonic visual and auditory alterations lookin at tv and since those trips I've been super anti-tv.
I just think that it is nothing more then that though. I can't find the sense in blaming tv for the real issues affecting our planet. I mean crime in your country that you are directly affected by could have some tv related influence but that is small fish in a big ocean when considering the way that billions of humans are living here. That Tyler durden quote up there points out some real issues which I don't see the silly tv being responsible for.

Tv is the supply aspect of the evil. The demand is already there.

True, there's bigger issues to discuss. Greed, wastefulness, the tide of afluence that seems to have started to take over people's lives in the last 15 years, and has been a defining trait from the start in my own generation's charecter in general. You could say that we should be discussing these things, and not tv. But I can think of no bigger influence on people's core attitudes that they carry around with them every waking second of thier lives, than TV.
