is it just me or does it seem like you guys are over paying? before the dispensaries was it common to pay $65/3.5 in California? it seems nuts to me, i thought prices would go down with the partial legalization
just goes to show stoners are out to make a buck too

See, that term pedo gets thrown around a lot.
Is a 16 year old guy having sex w/a 16 year old girl a pedophile?
If not, then how is a 30 year old considered a pedophile for doing the same thing?
I think y'all need to look up the definition for pedophile.

lol @ black market bud.
The price of weed depends on how well you know the grower. If you're buying from someone who's buying from someone who's buying from someone who's buying from the grower's cousin, you're gonna get a shitty price (ie 65/3.5g). The farther down the line you are, the more expensive it will be.
In all honesty, I don't think dispensaries have had much of an effect on street prices. People are always trying to make a buck

I've lived most of my life in southern California. Back in the '90s before the medical laws came to pass, common prices for the "chronic" aka "dank nugs" was typically $50 - $60 for 3.5 oz. The benefit came from buying in larger quantity. The breakdown for the best of the best was typically:- 1g for $20
- 3.5g (1/8 oz) for $50 - $60
- 7.0g (1/4 oz) for $90 - $110
- 14.0g (1/2 oz) for $150 - $180
- 28.0g (1 oz) for $250 - $350
Now a days, the small quantity 1g and 3.5g packages from the licensed dispensaries are fairly consistent with the old prices (with the consistency of high quality product in fact much improved). However you just don't get the breaks for buying larger amounts so much anymore. At dispensaries in the Los Angeles area, it is not uncommon to see ounces going for $475.
Of course, this isn't always the case, as evidenced by places such as Good Karma Growers, who sell clones/mothers and top quality buds for rates as reasonable as $300 per ounce (less than $11/g - same as the old school street discounts).
It is true that there are a LOT of people scrambling to get into this business, and Los Angeles in particular has seen several hundreds of new shops open up in the past couple of years. In just the last couple of weeks, the city has begun cracking down on the less legitimate of the operations (and other cities in the state such as Sacramento are following suit); reasonably so, considering the high prices and relative lack of knowledge and awareness at some of these businesses. Obviously, many people are in this just to cash in and don't really care about treating the business very seriously. In turn, this will unfortunately hurt the cause against prohibition.
On the whole, while I don't appreciate so many of the shady clinics that have opened their doors recently, it doesn't take away the extreme benefit of being able to procure, grow and partake in one of my favorite drugs without fear of interference or arrest from law enforcement. That, my friends, is why I don't complain about paying $65 an eigth for stuff like this...
